  • 120 blew up - now waiting for my 150 to arrive

    Ok, long story short.......

I bought a second hand 120 GXL auto diesel three weeks ago from my local Toyota dealer. 150 000Km's on the clock. The hand book was stamped by Toyota every 10 000Km's.

    Looks good, drives great..... SOLD.

There began my problems. I only drove the car six times and the rest of the time it was at Toyota. In the end Toyota found metal shavings in the sump, the water pump had sheared off and was hanging loose and a multitude of other issues. I think to myself - this Toyota has been serviced every 10 000Km's by Toyota and the motor is this bad!?

    WHAT THA!?

Fortunately, the dealer came to the party. Took back my busted 120 and gave me a full refund of the purchase price. Put that against a new 150 series GXL diesel auto and loaded up the accessories list. Toyota really looked after me and gave me a price that I could just not walk away from.

Bugger about the 120. But thankfully Toyota looked after us.

Two weeks and I am in my new 150 YAY!

Bugger about the 120 but sounds like it worked out for you. Bit of a worry that a car with such a regular service history could be so bad, hope it's not the same dealer you are getting your new Prado from?

I love my new (bought 2nd-hand from a Toyota dealer) 150 Petrol Kakadu, just have a possible issue with the size of the tyres that came on it to resolve.

It's a big step up from the old 95 series that served us well the last 10 years. Still haven't worked all the buttons and switches out yet, just about need a pilot's licence to work them all!

Hey that's why I bought a 2nd-hand one, I can't justify the new price either!

I wonder who that dealer will con next with the old "120 with full service history trick", then give a full refund as long as you buy a new car???
Prado 120 GXL v6 Petrol 2003, Lovell 50mm raised springs -HD Front -Medium Rear, Bilstein Shocks, 600w inverter, Rhino roof rack and tray.

And this kids is why we don't ever ever trust dealership servicing. I would be getting your new 150 serviced elsewhere.

That was not my only option with the dealer. They offered me a full refund, they offered to source a similar second hand 120 or to put the refund against a new vehicle.

We opted for the new vehicle and Toyota looked after us - all bolt on's at cost price and vehicle heavily discounted.

Yes, it arrived last Friday. Fairly standard at the moment with the only bolt on bits being:

                        1. Toyota alloy bar
                        2. Front parking assist
                        3. Lightforce spotties
                        4. ICOM UHF
                        5. Electronic brake controller
                        6. Toyota towbar

Left on my list to get is:

                        1. Dual battery set up
                        2. Pull out awning
                        3. Decent tyres

OOOh, shiny! I have the Toyota towbar as well and an Icom 440 UHF.

As for decent tyres I have the Bridgestone Dueler D697LT AT in a 265/60/R18 size. Very quiet on road but I have yet to try them off, only got them about a week ago. I don't think they will be quite as good off road as the BFG AT 265/65/R18's they replaced but I had legality issues with those being 26mm over the placard rated tyre size and no lift. The BFG's had a harder ride though and squirmed around a bit on tram tracks which I have to travel up and down on every work day.
