I didn't really give a shit what way they faced as long as they rotated them evenly, how can you be confident they even rotated them at all?
Did they fit all the tyres originally?

The reason i am asking is because very few dealerships have tyre changers or have trained the guys as to how to use them without scratching an alloy wheel
I know that you are annoyed because they did a 5 way rotate and 1 tyre had the writing differant to the others but who fitted them all that way?

I had GXL rims fitted to my VX with AT3s from the dealership when I brought the car, as I wanted 17s, they touched on the swaybar so I asked for FJ rims 17s with +15 offset.. which took about 6 months to organise a set.
Now interstate Toyota shipped them here and as I was due for a 10k service, I paid Toyota 100 bux to switch all 5 rims and rotate rather then goto tyre power which I should of. They did just a 4 way rotate which is fine. Just one tyre was facing the wrong way. Fail.

Yes they scratched them also which is common as I had the problem before but it's a 4wd of well.

Local Toyota service Story: - Got the clutch replaced just before our big trip across the Simpson to the Kimberleys.

About to tackle Big Red - whoops! Can't select low range - or move the transfer lever at all for that matter...

Birdsville mechanic discovered the Toyota dealer's mechanic had not put the transfer lever back into the top of the box in the correct position, so it was just jammed in, doing nothing...

Neighbours had their Prado serviced (pre holiday) at the same dealer as the above story: The mechanic forgot to put oil back into the engine during a routine service - so when they did the final inspection and test drive, the engine seized up, and required a new engine to be fitted... so much for the neighbours holiday plans...

Not going to that dealer's service department ever again...

So please, just for the general knowledge of other Prado Pointers, and without bias or favour, (just your honest response in accordance with your own personal experience), which toyota dealer specifically is it that you have been dealing with in the past?

So what do they do with those electronic surveys that they send to you asking about your servicing experience? Does anybody care.

I'll watch it tonight. Should be good for a laugh. It's currently buffering. Our internet speed in Toowoomba is sooooooooo slowwwwwwwwww. Even at work it's terrible and takes about 10 minutes to load up our own website home page. It can take a fair while to load up even 1 minute of video on Youtube at home at times. Good thing I'm a patient man

Internet was too slow causing Youtube to keep timing out and I was unable to watch it on this occasion. Will try again soon.

Called Toyota today to book in for my 30000 service. The receptionist said, "no you need the 40000". I said, "no I need the 30000". Receptionist said, oh no that expired last month. Computer says you have to have the 40000. car has 29850km and now Toyota tell me I have to have to 40000 service becasue I missed out on the 6 month one in between!!!! What problems will this cause come warranty claim time? Iu just hope they stamp the service book for the 30000 not the 40000. Gave me the sh*ts.

Had the 20k Service last week under the Service advantage plan... One of the items is check all the tires (Condition and pressure), well the spare has a whopping great screw sticking out of it which I hadn't gotten around to doing anything about. When they did the service they reported all tires were "AS new"... I pointed out to them that unless they came deflated and with a screw, how could they say they had checked it??? To be fair they did offer to fix it free of charge but it makes you wonder what else was not done... Looks like there will be some strategicly placed liquid paper in place for the next service...

x 2. They were alright. I had a few issues with them signing off on doing a log book service without actually doing everything in the book. On the other hand, they had no problems replacing my mud flaps with the new ones. That said, I'm in the market for a new mechanic since the fixed price service on my car is finished.

There should be a camera installed in the service bay where we can look what they are actually doing...

It would need a VERY high shutter speed! I book my car in early and hang around (Bunnings and coffee across the road) and always get a call within an hour to say its ready! That the 1000, 10000, 20000 & 30000. Maybe the 40000 takes an extra 15 minutes, we'll see.

Had my Prado serviced at Melville Toyota and was told I needed new front rotors and pad, rear pads and rotors skimmed as the pads were worn out.
Declined the repairs and took the car home. Checked the pads which seemed fine. Took the vehicle to Ultratune around the corner and had them check it all out. Front pads 60% worn, rotors at 28mm no problem. Rear pads at 50% wear and ok.

Melville tried to scam me of about $1299 not happy. Would never go there again. BTW the car had done 63000km.

                              Regards

I've done 98,000km, some off-road, some beach, some towing boat, some towing trailer, and still on original tyres and pads and rotors. Will change the tyres in the next 10,000km ( I run 42 PSI on the highway, and vary according to off road surface as others have discussed), and when braking on long steep downhill runs I am careful not to 'ride' the brakes, apply the brakes, slow down, then get off the brakes to allow them to cool, and so on...anyway, sounds like someone was wanting to have a go at you with your pads and rotors. I wget the mechanic to report to me what the rotor thickness and pad thickess is, and then make a decision...after some advice. Unfortunately you will run out of service departments if you don't go back once they try and put one over you...it may be best to stand up them and say, "no, thats bull&shit, the pads and rotors have such and such a thickness so don't try and pull that cr@p on me please"....and they may just get the message! Probably not unfortunately.
