  • Cleaning products for interior

    Hi All!

This is my first post on Prado Point.

We picked up our first new car just before christmas being a white 150 series gxl.

Just would like to know what other people are using to wipe down the dash etc? It looks like it has a leather steering wheel - is anything else leather on the 150 gxl? So far I have just been using armor oil.

    Cheers

Damp microfibre cloth works best. Armor all makes dust stick everywhere.

I would stop using Armor Oil, I hate the stuff and I reckon over years it causes more trouble and attracts more dust and dirt and everything is bloody slippery. All I have ever used in my cars is a damp chamois on everything including windows. When I had the grande prado I used leather conditioner but never had it long enough to see wether would have helped over time or not. The worst part I've seen in prado's with leather is the side of the drivers seat where you slide in and out, seems to wear extremely quickly. I certainly wouldn't be putting it on the steering wheel (slippery/dangerous). I would put a dash mat on the dash pad to protect it from the sun and use a reflective sun visor when parked, and if possible garage it. The sun is the biggest killer and sitting out over night doesn't help either. Im extremely fussy with the paint work and interior trim on all my cars. I even have a queen sheet in both cars and throw it over the cars on anything that is 35c more so to stop the direct sun on the seats etc as I don't have under cover parking at work but both cars a garaged every night and the only thing in my garage is my car no shelfs, nothing, even my 4 year old knows to keep her bike well away from the prado or the wifes car. Yes it will get scratches off road unless you use some form of brush on protective stuff. Regular wash and a polish every 6 months and all will be sweet until you get that first dent then it will piss you off LOL (I hope not) Park next to a pole when ever possible in the carparks..............Cheers Steve

You need to use non-slip cleaners on floor mats and steering wheels. Armor all should not be used. You need a leather cleaner and conditioner. Meguiar's make good products.

Yes the chamois dampened is the best. I would only se Amor Oil on tyres if you like them shiny...

For any marks/dirt marks/stains on the material interior - have baby wipes to hand. They can even get ball point pen off. Best invention ever but seems to only be known by women with kids - ok have a kid but sure as heck wished I had known sooner.

Ok I use the baby wipes on the dash too if it needs more than water.

Baby wipes also get blood off and rust spots can be reduced. Honestly with any stain they are my first go-to.

And people use these wipes on babies. Damp cloth is the only way to go. Armoral is a silicone based product that gives shine and feel. Ones it's in it's in. Too much trouble to wipe it off as residue down the track. Yep, look at Mothers or maguires products. Even a gentle air blower works.
Had a 2006 GXL, liked it so much bought a 2008 GXL. Liked the 150 so I bought a black 2010 GXL. Liked them even more and bought 12/2012 GXL. Must like Prado

              Thanks for the replies,

So is the steering wheel the only leather product on the gxl with velour interior? Some parts of the door trims and dash look a little sus maybe they're vinyl.

I've been using armor oil on plastics for years and never had any problems. Usually wipe over after every wash.

I'll take your advice and look for something else - I haven't put anything on the steering wheel as yet.

              Cheers

Use unscented baby wipes, it works a treat on all surfaces including the headlining, it will not leave marks either.

See I am not the only one. Its not a hard product. I was actually waiting for school pick up yesterday and the armrests got a clean and at the end my hands were nice and soft too

I find window cleaner the best for the inside also gets the bugs off also on the outside.
