About the TFT multi information display inside the dash board, sometime, there is bond white bright square edge like fog. Especially when I drive the car out from the warehouse each time. Then slowly, the white part on the edge will be disappeared in 10-15 mins and become clear and sharp.

I attached a few pictures. Is it because of the light sensor or some problem with the TFT display? Anyone bough VX or Kakadu had some problem like it?

Picked mine up end of october. Screen is always clear and sharp. Car is parked in fairly dark garage, lights always come on when i drive in, so i dont think is auto light sensor

      • Does it dim with the dash light dimmer? If yes does the halo or border go away if the dimmer is turned brighter?

I looked at a new GXL today. Sorry apart from the front and some minor bits inside looks like mine. And its black trim. Certainly the front is going to be a challenge for a bar and it looks like the approach angle is worse than before with the standard plastic.

        • I did checked the manual before.

About possible problem of the TFT multi-information display, it just mentioned "at extremly low temperatures, the display may respond slowly, and display changes may be delayed. For example, there is a lag between the driver's shifting and the new gear number appearing on the display."

The temperature is about 15-18 degree, not very cold. Does the bright edge mean response slowly? no idea. It doesn't happen every day. I have driven the car for about 10 days, it happened 4 time already. But it does happen only when I start the car. It last 10 -15 mins, then disappeared. Does it really response slowly? no idea... headache with hi tech sometime.

I have not seen this problem for couple days. However I remember it doesn't dim with the dash light, all other display working well.

              • Anyone with the last model prado, how do you active the AFS? It seems the new face lift prado has somehow dropped this feature, as i couldn't find any information about AFS in the manual, or the dealer talked to me on the phone told me where to find and active it, but couldn't find it at all, seems that is not a standard vx feature anymore?

                Comment

                • Ice.t,

Perhaps you're right and they have dropped it. Regardless of how it's enabled or disabled, it would seem strange for it not to be enabled by default if the feature is there wouldn't it? I'm pretty sure it was enabled from the factory on my 2012 Kakadu. In the 2012 model it's enabled in the menu system via the steering wheel RHS buttons and display between the tacho & speedo - has this whole menu system changed in the new model?

I also note there's no mention of AFS on the website anymore, whereas the brochure for my model clearly states the feature in the VX & up. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it anyhow. Bit of a gimmick IMHO. The inboard low beam light rotates as you turn (i.e. only the LHS lamp moves when turning left & only the RHS lamp when turning right). It only rotates by one increment regardless of turn angle and does not rotate that far. It's kind of cool that you can see the beam patterns moving on the road, but I don't find it makes a great deal of real difference to what you can see on the road.

                  Cheers,

                  David.

                  • Thanks David, thats where the dealer told me to activate the afs, seems they dont even know its been dropped. Just feel a bit odd when they actually dropping some "interesting" feature.
Beside, theres no more manual adjustment for headlamp height as well, seems it is "automatic" adjust now...

                    Comment

                    • There's no manual adjust on my model either. I believe the 2012 models with HID low beams (definitely Kakadu, VX as well?) had the automatic height adjusters - seem to remember reading in another thread that it's an ADR requirement for HIDs. The halogen low beams in the 2012 GXL had the manual height adjustment. The facelift model has replaced the low beam HIDs with with LED lamps in the up-spec models right? If so, perhaps the LED lamps have just maintained the auto height adjustment that the HIDs had?

                      Cheers,

                      David.

                      • There's a review in January's 4x4 Australia (why on earth Jan's mag is coming out now I have no idea...). The only "new" thing was that the Kakadu's come with a standard rear locking diff. It's not available on the other versions because it relies on the MTS ("Multi terrain select") system which only the Kakadu has.

                        • Peter,

Seems like 4x4 Australia are misguided as the 2012 Kakadu had a rear diff lock (and MTS) as standard too.

                          Cheers,

                          David.

                          • I have a rear diff lock and MTS on my 2009 Kakadu, mine was the "Off Road Pack" option so I didn't get Radar Cruise Control. My understanding is the MTS has been refined on the facelift model.

                            • Corine,

Yep, all the features of the "off road pack" became standard on Kakadu from October 2011 production on. That is, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Monitor, Multi-Terrain Select System (MTS), Rear Diff Lock, Wide View Front and Left Side Monitor.

                              Cheers,

                              David.
