Picked up the new Prado (GLX Diesel) yesterday. Excellent

Jumped in the car today and driving noticed the "Slip indicator light" was on on the dash. When I stoped the car the the remote door would not lock. So tried to start it and nothing. It will only start whn you hold the key right next to the start button (as per the book)

Rang toyota and no service people there so they cant do anything untill monday - great!

After going through the book I worked out fuse 21 is for the smart entry and VSC. It is also for the stop lights and guess what - i checked and no break lights. So though it would be a simple switch of the fuse. When i opened the fuse box a small loose white fuse with no markings on it was sitting on top not connected to anything. I have no idea what this is for. I swapped the fuse (21) with the spare but no difference.

So.....

anyone got any idea what the white fuse is for?
any other leads?

Had a closer look and the fuse is not blown. Was also mistaken about the break lights - they are working so that discounts the fuse issue.

this is the loose fuse that was flaoting around in the fuse box. no markings on top



Looks like it is a trip to the service centre first thing monday morning

That's not a fuse, it's a shorting link/pin.

OK all fixed now. Turns out it there was an incorerctly fitted pin that tripped the computer. The service said that there are a range of things all linked in the electronics such as brake lights, remote entry, seat belts, vehicle stability control etc and if there is a problem with one it cascades to a whole lot of different parts of the car.

Technology brings a whole lot of benefits from safety to handling but sometimes you just wish a screw driver and hammer was all you needed to fix your car!

Did you get anything for your inconvenience??? I would've been hitting them up for something, especially seeing as they delivered you a new car that wasn't set up correctly. If you paid a 'dealer delivery' fee, I'd be asking for it back.

I have sent them a polite email explaining my disapointment. I wanted it in writing so will be interesting to see if and what response I get. They have been very good during the sales discussion but I wonder if I have just reverted to a number now that the purchase is complete. I will give them the benefit at the moment.

Most anoying thing was having to take a half day off work to mess around with taking it to the service centre. I should send them an invoice!
