  • Got my cam today, haven't had time for a look yet. Like the light wire idea.

    • This is one of the reasons we install dash cams, a close call and I'm glad nobody was hurt (audio disabled):

      • I purchased one of these units for $150

Will be interested in comparing the quality to the Blackvue units, just need to wire it up to be constantly powered this weekend.

I get mine back on Friday from the workshop. Could be interesting. (Not that I don't trust them).

Great idea - I'll look into this for mine I think

Seriously though..that is exactly the reason to have a cam. That was in no way your error.

            Happy with the cam then?

Those boys ran across the road without looking and contrary to the red "don't walk" sign. The heavy braking triggered the BlackVue sensor and the incident was recorded as an "Event". Yes, very happy with the cam

                Or

                NOT
OK - so it is now installed apart from hard wiring to the Aux battery. Very impressed with the quality compared to my old dash cam (eBay special).

I have the Class 4 32GB micro SD card from my old dash cam and see the 16GB one supplied is a Class 10. It doesn't say in the manual but will a Class 4 work OK or do I need to try it and see?

                • Class 4 will work but may be slower loading up, this is what I was told by the supplier I bought mine from .. He didn't gain anything either not like I had to buy a card as it come with it so I just use the one supplied. Like yourself my 4 was from another camera I was using so I keep the 4 for backup just in case. Must say I havnt used the 4 in the dashcam only the old one.... Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve, I've installed it and it seemed to work OK. I have to go up to the city later today so I will leave it in and see how the recordings look when I get back.

Something else that doesn't seem to be in the manual - how long are the recordings? I see that you can set 1, 2 or 3 for both normal and event recording but what do these correspond to? I know that 1 is one minute and I've just changed the setting to 3. My old cam was 15 minutes which I thought was about right.

                    • I think for memory your right 1, 2 or 3. I wish it did 15 min intervals or more for normal recording but unfortunately doesn't. The elcheapo I had first did 15 mins. Event is when its in parking mode or normal mode and it detects a hit eg mine beeps if I go over a speed hump but you can set it to either be more sensitive or less. When you go back through it the events are orange, parking mode is blue and normal is green using the blackvue programme.....Cheers Steve

                      • Another question - I've just wired it up to the Aux battery and waited 10 minutes for it to go into Parking mode (I know it did). What is the difference - it continues to record, I had expected it to go into some sort of sleep mode and wake up when something happened but it just seems to continue recording like in Normal mode?

The Class 4 SD card seems to work OK though.

                        • Yeah I think it just keeps recording as when we were out on sunday 4wdrive training when I jumped back in after having it on accessories (mines not hooked upto permanent power) you hear it say "parking mode disabled" but the only difference I see when playing back is it comes up in blue which is parking mode clips ?? instead of the usual green ?? ........I was thinking it went into some sort of sleep mode as well. My $70 one did, it would click back on when it detected a knock or some thing.......Cheers Steve

                            • Thanks Steve will have to check that on mine as well or though probably not that important for myself at the moment as I don't have permanent power but will still check all the same..........Cheers Steve

                              • When I figure out which wires from the interior lights to splice for permanent power, I'll power the BlackVue from there.
