  • What benefits from 150 series ECU Upgrades?

    Hello All,

I have been reading all through the forums about ECM and other upgrades to fix a variety of issues.

My 2010 - 150 Diesel, 110,000km, has had no upgrades since new, can I book it into Toyota to get all the upgrades put into it without getting anything else done ?.

After reading I believe I have a few of the issues that others have had, surging, flat spots etc.

Are there any tweaks that I can do myself or is it all done via Toyota ? .

I will be taking it to Perth to get done (600km away) as the dealer here has issues, would it be best to get a list together or just get everything upgraded ? .

    Thanks
2010 GXL Prado, ARB bar and winch, driving lights, dual wheel rack, roof rack, UHF, sat phone, rear seats removed, custom rear floor and fridge slide, chip, 3inch exhaust, 3inch lift, 200kg rear springs, ome shocks, 285 maxxis Tyres, Dual batteries, Anderson plugs, power in back etc. snorkel, and more. Wish List - nomad transmission lockup, roof mount DVD, long range tank, endless air compressor to fit the 150.

    Update,

I rang Toyota at Northbridge today and booked in to get all the upgrades etc that my 150 has missed out on, they said that it would be no charge to do just the upgrades.

But I am getting the 120k service done as well while I am there.

And they will give me a loan car whilst mine is getting worked on, which is 100% better than Kalgoorlie and Meridan Toyota that give you nothing.

Decided to book it in on the second week of November, thought while I am going all the way to Perth I may as well go to the 4wd show while I am there.... Win win.

When you find a good dealer, stick to it. Goldfields caused me some grief last week but luckily I found the problems and got them to sort them asap. I always check their work.

Have you got specifics on exactly what the updates are?

Hey Bushbasher, was passing to station yesterday and saw the prado out the front, knew it was yours straightbaway... with the big pradopoint stickers on the side. To good a day to be stuck in side, bet you were spewin.

Hey shodown, it's an Auto, I have no specifics on the updates, there is plenty of mention of them on here. I am concerned mainly withe surging, flat spots, gear changing and any fault codes that may be present.

Going across the great central to ayers rock, the loop of king canyon and to Alice this time next year so am looking forward to getting some good deals on some stuff at the Perth 4wd show in November.

i was really impressed after mine was done. I had a rattling sound and after my dealer hooked up the diagnostic stuff they talked to head office about it, and were told they would upgrade some stuff, i was told it was ok to drive, but had to wait a few weeks or so for new injectors to come from japan, after the job the dealer said they had upgraded the injectors as well as pipes and rail, and changed the computer with latest programs, they said it was worth around $6k if i had to pay for it my self!. anyway it drives so much better, it has much lighter throttle input to drive, and the dead spot/ hesitations are gone, it seems to change into 5th earlier when cruising and it has more pull/ torque on the hills, it feels as though it has lost a few hundred kilos!. i was never unhappy how it went before but if the latest software makes that much difference then i would recommend it. i cant tell if fuel use is any better as i have only done 2 tanks since the upgrade.

thanks The Roo, since the work has been done the rattling has gone. it had a light "chatter" at certain times, often at 1400 rpm on the high way it would do it, and on cooler days. It used to hesitate if you put your foot down to quickly- it would take a second or two then go, now it is instant and the 2500rpm hesitation has also gone. cheers.

Is there any way of knowing if any or all upgrades have been done? Having only just purchased the car recently, I've got no idea if anything has ever been done.

You could try calling your toyota dealer, giving them your rego number and asking them to check the computer history.

If they updated their system it will be documented what they have done.

If they are like my local dealer they won't have anything, my dealer doesn't even fill in the service book unless you actually ask them to do it....

It's there responsibility to do so as part of the dealership agreements with Toyota Australia.

Just had my feb 2012 Altitude in for 18 month service and had all firmware upgrades done. Seems to run much better around town, like driving in S4. Yet to try country run. Also notice no vibrations around 1500 rpm.

I asked about ECU updates when booking my 2009 Kakadu petrol auto in for its 70,000K service and was told there were none but they would check. My invoice says "none available" so either that means I've already had them all done or they are telling me porkies. Dag nang it I was looking for this thread before I took it in and couldn't find it! Is there anything specific I should be asking for next time?

When I said I wanted the upgrades, they asked if I had a problem. When I just said that upgrades were available & that was only reason, they were reluctant to do anything. When they asked again if I had a problem, I said that engine revs & surge when accelerating downhill (like others on Pradopointers) and that I understood the upgrade would fix it. They checked & said yep that's in the toyota bulletin and I got the upgrade with the service. Looks like you've got to tell them you have a problem.
