      • Prado (2010 Kakadu @ 170k) got a big birthday today - maintenance wise. New injectors and pipes, finally put in my trans cooler (actually two) and I gave the trans a full flush using 12 litres of Penrite LV ATF.

Even though I got Toyota service to do a full flush a couple of years ago (they only changed 6 litres) the ATF was in a terrible condition. Having the upfront cooler makes for an easy change using spare cooler hose and a couple of temporary barbed hose joiners. I used a small 12v diaphragm pump to push the new ATF back in from the 4 litre ATF container connected to the return line at the cooler and had a separate discharge hose connected to the new radiator discharge hose for the old stuff. Took 4 engine start stop cycles to get everything looking new. Takes about 30 seconds to get out 3 litres using the internal trans pump and took around 5 minutes for the small diaphragm pump to push back the identical amount I took out. The new coolers and hose work add around 1 litre of ATF capacity. If or when I do the flush again, should only take around 30-45minutes next time.

Touch wood - but engine and trans are working sweet.

            • I got some JW Speaker H11 LED Headlight kit from Autobarn for about $130, very easy to install. You can find them on eBay at the moment for $125 with free postage.

Compared to the standard globes the LED are so much better. I will change the fog lights too soon with the same as they are also H11 globes

Are these simply a matter of swapping the globes?
Are you happy with the result? I'm worried 6200K will be too "blue". Would you consider also doing the high beams (HB3)??

                  • Hi Joe, yes very simple as just swapping the globes, all plugs are the same no need for any fancy electrical work. I'm very happy with the results and the colour is bright white. they do also have a 4000K version too.

I didn't really consider doing the High Beams as I don't use them very often and quite happy with how they perform, although JW Speaker also make a LED Kit to replace the HB3 Globes.

You're one of the few owners brave enough to tackle this one themselves, I know I wouldn't

The instructions and template from Safari make the job so easy. Just need a sharp hole saw and a lot of guts. The missus had to walk away when I fitted one a few years ago. Just about to have another go on the new 2.8

Hi Starbuck. Re Dual battery install. Is that a 2.8 or 3.0 Prado.
If it is a 2.8 what battery tray did you use? and the clamp on top which also ties to the front bar, part of tray kit or separate item? I just got a new 2.8 and I see they have shifted the aircon out of the way which is good. From memory when I did a dual battery in the old 3.0 there were permanent threads in place to bolt the battery tray onto. The 2.8 does not have any threads in place, just holes.

                              • Hi Greydog,

It is a 3.0 Diesel, The tray I used was a Projecta HDBT112. The clamp comes with the tray. I had to move my aircon pipe out of the way a fair distance but had no issue doing it there is a lot of play in it.

Yes there were permanent threads for the battery tray as i think overseas models have a second battery as standard.
