  • Light bar affecting cruise control

    Hi guys,
First post here so be gentle
Anyway, background to this vehicle, bought second hand 34k on the clock 2012 Kakadu diesel. Has all the fruit including the forward camera and radar.
Also has the nudge bar fitted (which to me seems to be the wrong size as it appears to be right in the middle of the camera view for the forward camera. ) Anyway, today I fitted an LED Light bar using some brackets I purchased and mounted on the nudge bar. Originally I was going to mount it so that it sat straight out on top of the nudge bar, (in front of the bar) but she who must be obeyed didn't like the look of it so I had to change the position to be above and to the rear of the nudge bar. Used the included wiring loom but modified it so that the led bar only comes on with the high beam.

So the light bar works perfectly. only problem is that it appears that the PCS had conniptions and is no longer able to turn on the cruise control. Lead foot that I am I need to have this working so that I can avoid breaking those pesky speed limits.
Any suggestions for mounting the LED bar so that it does not interfere with the Radar?
PS Buying a new bullbar or nudgebar is not on the cards

Why would fitting a lightbar interfere with your cruise control?
Check your wiring that you just fitted and make sure it has a good earth.
      Might just be a coincidence

Unless the bar is directly in front of the Radar. It would then sense it needs to stop. - Just a thought.

Radar? As in it helps you keep a safe distance between you and the car in front? Time to move the light bar then.

Good news, after the events of Saturday night, I moved the light bar forward and slightly below the nudge bar and the radar/cruise control now works. As was stated above, the system was assuming the sensor was dirty?! and disabled the PCS /cruise control.
I'm not particularly happy with the location as I can foresee swmbo managing to crunch it by parking too close to a wall.
I'll try and put some photos up later.

If it is forward of the nudge bar, then it is probably illegal.

So the other option is hanging it upside down at the bottom of the nudge bar, but I suspect this would block the view from the camera too much.

Just a suggestion, don't even know if it's possible down your way, but what about a slim line number plate and mounting in in the bumper recess under the number plate? Don't know if it's possible, but I guess you would need to fabricate some sort of solid mounting to stop it vibrating around all crazy like. I think it would look mint hidden down there though, wouldn't be real easy to spot unless you were looking for it.

ive seen them mounted in the lower intake in the bumper...pretty neat way of doing it.

FYI the radar is within the toyota emblem on the front...the 'cresting' camera is the black box underneath

Also you can buy OE looking light bar switches on ebay so you can keep the factory prado look on the switch panel.

But wouldn't mounting it in the lower intake result in reduced airflow to the radiator? I know on some cars the lower intake is actually the main air intake for the Radiator and in Perth, air flow can be really important especially on those 40 degree days. i agree I think it would look much neater. I am also considering turning the light bar over (because of the way the brackets attach) and mounting it more under the nudge bar but i may get in trouble with the plods for blocking the number plate
