Fitting 3rd row of seats to a GX 150 series

Hi all, anyone ever fitted a 3rd row of seats to a gx?? I've got a customer with a GX who's got himself a set of 3rd row seats out of a GXL & wants me to fit them. Just wondering if anyone has attempted it, what dramas if any? Do the required mounting/fixing points exist on the GX? etc. Any help would be appreciated before I attempt the job, regards Quanger.

Has he got the seatbelt as well?

Have you checked the legalities? They were sold as a 5 seater so probably need an engineer to sign off on the change at a minimum.

You'll also need the plastic side trims, the rear carpet peice and the rear pillar trims, they are different between the GX 5 seater and any of the 7 seater models.

Yep, was well aware of the trims etc. hadn't given a lot of thought to the legal side of it but will look into that, they turn commodore & falcon wagons into 7 seaters with "dicky seats" but I suppose they are engineered also. Was really wondering more about captive mounting points for the seats & belts etc. if they aren't already in place I won't be tackling it.

There are some M10 x 1.25 mounting points (4 of) on the bracing piece, just behind the 2nd row of seats. I had to remove the rear fuel tank cover, and drill up from under the vehicle, though the centre of two (2) M10 x 1.25 threaded mounting points that are located just behind the wheel arches.

I am fitting a set of drawers into my GX 150, and had a similar issue, no mounting points - apart from the M6 tie down points, and there is no way I was going to trust those with all the weight of loaded drawers!

As to whether these point are compatible with the 3rd row seats, I cant comment. I can say though, all the pics I referred to while trying to find mounting points for my drawers, clearly showed 4 x M10 mounting points across the rear of the cargo area, which were not in my vehicle (I've had that rear carpet out, a number of times now.....

Thanks Wheelnut, that doesn't sound encouraging at all, might just have to strip the back out & have a look, if OEM mountings aren't there it won't be happening.

legally i think its a no no. i have a GX but with the extra seat option from factory which includes side airbags for the 3rd row, all trim and seatbelts AND the vehicle ID plate that says i have a seat capacity for 7 people.

The captive nuts/mounting points for the back of the 3rd row seats are there on the GX, Toyota just didn't drill the holes through the floor. If you look from underneath you can see them there. This is where Black Widow drawers mount to.

Mmmmmmm, the plot thickens, I know a bloke in town who does cargo barriers & dicky seats etc for a living, might give him a call & see what the go is, he may be able to sign off on the job perhaps.

The 5 seat gx also has a different 2nd row seat compared to the 7 seat versions. Found this out when researching seat covers.

I have full set of GX 7 seats in the shed and willing to swap the plastics...

Mine are all out for drawer conversion.

I removed rear seats + seat belts etc, now Im looking for some plastic blanking plates to fill the holes in the rear pillars where the seat belts were, if anyone has them spare... or knows where they would be available??

What has everyone else done there?

Nothing done about this job as yet, haven't seen the owner for a few weeks, sorta hoping he's gone cold on the idea
