  • Very subtle rattle/vibration from dashboard

Currently own a 2015 D4D Prado LHD (Left hand drive)
It has around 1250km and i already hear a very subtle rattling coming from the dashboard. It seems to come from the odometer/driver ac vent/steering wheel area and it only happens when i drive on normal concrete roads which are rougher than asphalt roads.

    Anyone have this issue?

I have a Nov 14 built D4D GXL which I took delivery of on the 31/1/14. Its just ticked over 1700kms and I have recently noticed a hum/vibration/drone/rattle that I cant 100% pin point but I feel its there somewhere. You say yours is from the drivers side area, I feel mine is more passenger side.

Yeah, mine seems to come from the drivers side and i just cant seem to find what it is. I have tried holding all of the buttons, knobs and driver side ac vent and i can still hear it. It definitely sounds like it's something inside and not from the engine compartment.
It sounds as if a screw or a piece of plastic is loose and when i drive on concrete roads or rough surfaces it vibrates and rattles. Such a PITA.

I get a rattle from my steering wheel. I give it a decent tap and it stops

The trim surround to the start button on mine had a very slight rattle on normal roads, if I push the trim surrounding te button it goes away. I have pulled the trim off and put some soft foam in the clips which seems to work for about a year. Also putting it back with a wipe of silicone spray stops re trims making noise against each other.

I have also noticed a rattle in the passenger rear door area, either the quarter panel or the grab handle above it... Just saying.

I didnt know that these cars had rattle problems since almost no one posts about them. Good to know that im not "alone" in this. Ill try some of the things you guys mentioned.
I really expected more from the Prado since it's very very expensive here also.

To be honest, i didnt expect rattles to appear so soon. Out of the cars that i've owned the one that was built like a tank in my experience was the BMW E39. That thing rode like a tank, drove like a tank and was built like a tank. Everything was bullet proof. Sold it after 12 years.

Mine is not a rattle, its more a hum or drone type sound.

Yes, my 2014 D4D too has developed a slight rattle, but it seems at a certain speed/rpm and outside that range it goes away! Humm not sure why it is there?
D4D. How long will it last?

I have a 2014 facelift with just over 3000kms... very noticeable plastic rattle coming from around the gearstick (auto). When I press down hard on the plastic it goes away..frustrating..

Have a 2015 D4D and I get a subtle rattle/vibration when accelerating and it hits 1700rpm. Only these revs, nothing either side.
And sounds like coming from just beyond the steering wheel? But could be behind speedos on the dash? Hard to tell.
When I adjust the height and distance of the steering wheel it goes away for a while. Thinking maybe something in there?
Not too bad but of course it's the only rattle and sometimes annoying....

I still havent found the source of the rattle in mine.
Seems to come from the driver side A/C vent. I've tried pushing almost all surfaces and i can still hear it. Even though its very subtle (I can only hear it with the radio off) i'm afraid it will get louder over time.

                        Hi
My rattle sounded like coming from dash around start button, but was actually the window winder switch surround.
A lite touch with finger and the rattle went away, fixed it by removing door trim and applying a few blobs of silicon on the inside.

Still looking for the source of the rattle in mine. It got considerably louder as i was afraid. It MUCH MUCH louder now.
After i parked the car today i started to find any loose surfaces or buttons. The ODO Trip button seems like a potential candidate for the source of the rattle. I hope it is, that way i can fix it by inserting a piece of paper to hold it.

I tried holding the ODO button and it didnt work.
I can still hear the rattle and it happens all the time at a specific vibration frequency/RPM.
Usually happens at around 1250 - 1400 RPM regardless of speed. It's only audible if i have the radio off or a very low volume.
This should not be happening in such a new car, i only have around 1800KMs and it had this rattle since NEW. Piece of . . .
I had a Hyundai SUV and it never ever rattled (Only had it for a couple years).
