Noise from under car

Hi all,
Recently this noise has started coming from under my car, was seldom doing it, now does it all the time. Here is my best description:
- Sounds similar to a belt squeaking noise, semi loud squeak in tune with engine
- The noise occurs only at idle RPM no matter what gear
- Noise originates somewhere around the centre of the car, around area of the B pillar.
- Stops when engine is revved, but comes back as soon as idle speed hit.
- Seems to be able to be stopped by putting a metal tool against the exhaust tubing.
From that it sounds to me like something to do with the exhaust but cant see anything wrong,

Probably not even close but maybe Rubber mounts / hangers for the exhaust are squeaking? Try spraying some WD on them see if that helps.

Most likely the flex joint between the engine pipe and the rest of the exhurst system, there is a flange there with an asbestos style ring/gasket and 2 bolts that hold the joint together with springs to allow flex, ( have a look in the morning, you will get what i mean..!!)

the springs loose there tension and the gasket wears out, hold the pipe at idle and the noise should stop.

you can order the 2 bolts, gasket and 2 springs quite easily

I think you will find it is one of the exhaust mounts I had a similar issue.

Mine did this on a long trip recently. I kicked the exhaust around where the flange is just after the cat and it shut it up and has not come back. I suspect, as Andrew119 said, that the gasket in the join is worn and starting to leak. If the noise comes back I will replace the gasket.

It's soo obvious, you a missing one of the brackets that holds the rear stabiliser bar. Oh wait that was me. Frankly there is nothing worse than trying to pinpoint a noise and then some dude comes along 3 months later and finds the problem in 30 seconds.
