Rattle in Cabin of Facelift GXL

I've recently been getting a rattle/tapping in the front passenger side of my 2014 facelift. I took it to Toyota this week, who were unable to identify any sound (though this is likely due to the heavy rain), afterwards however it was constant from the time I left the service centre.

It's sounds similar to a glass pane moving and tapping, and also (most of the time) possibly plastic tapping. Has anyone come across this? It's driving me insane...

I had a rattle on mine after its service last week which actually seemed like it was coming from the drivers side. Toyota couldnt find it.
Initially it was only evident when the 1500 RPM drone was occuring but got worse. When i was going through road works there was a loud rattle bouncing back off the concrete barriers so i stopped and crawled underneath for a look. There are a couple of heat shields attached to the body over the exhaust. They are light and flimsy and the main front one was rattling against the body so i bent it out of the way and noise has gone.
I noticed the rear one is kinked and it looks like the mechanics have just bent them out of the way to access a gizmo i couldnt determine what it was in low light

I had a tapping noise in my 2015 gxl the other day found it to be the front passenger seat belt buckle when not being used was tapping against the side plastic to fix just moved it down so it was on the bottom keeper prob fixed

I too have a rattle in the front drivers side which I can't find. When I asked the guys at Toyota to have a listen they couldn't hear anything and when I rang them a second time to find it, of course I couldn't even hear it. Well it's back again, and usually when I sit between 60kph and 70kph. It's driving me crazy so off it goes back to the dealership

That's one I hadn't thought of, so I'll give it a go today..the other things I was thinking were wires under the glove box, or even the ones under the passenger seat..I'll let you know how I go..

understanding you think the sound maybe coming from around the drivers seat area, I had a similar problem recently... found it was the middle seat in the second row - bugged me for weeks hunting around - found a post on here that mentioned it and sure enough... it was the middle seat,.... I also thought it was coming from around the drivers area too.

Not sure about the rest of you guys, however my prado 2014 has a rattle in the surround of the shifter area. annoying as hell with no radio on.

Hi Rickoshea,

Check to see if the car jack is firmly extended so that it braces itself in it's mount and check if is the tools in the back door is rattling. Hope this helps.

Hunt around. I got a rattle that turned out to be my iPhone cable rattling on the transfer lever. I know the new ones don't have the lever but it just shows it can be anything

do you have a bottle of drink / water in the cup holder? I have found that the plastic ring that breaks off and sits around the neck when opened will rattle from the vibrations... weird but very true!

The rattle in my GXL facelift is the rear seats squeaking on their rails - it does sound like it comes from the front though!

Mate, I had that issue awhile ago and they said it was something to do with the clips that keep the plastic cover attached..they fixed it, but now it's back..the only way to stop it is keep pressure on the plastic near the gear shift. I'll be bringing it up at the next service.

Thanks mate, I have a new rattle in the back so I'll check those points. On the original issue though, it's all fixed. They made adjustments to the A pillar and the heater box..problem solved. Apparently this issue is well known as they couldn't (or didn't bother to) identify the very obvious sounds I was hearing. They just went and made the adjustments.
