  • Heater takes too long to warm up!

    Hi all

Is it normal for the Prado 150 heater to take longer than "other cars" to warm up? A friend had a Prado 120 and he said his is the same.

    Thanks

The heater will function once the engine is warmed up. How long is long?

My heater on the the Grande won't power up the fan until the heater core is at a certain temp - which is fine by me - it was 1 degree this morning & I don't particularly fancy being blasted with what's essentially refrigerated air at 7 in the morning.....haha

I do realize that coolant has to be warm up, in order for the thermal stat to open for circulate, run through heater core........etc

What i'm trying to get to is, the Prado thermal stat must OPEN very EARLY hence it takes forever to get the coolant to warm up.

Much longer than every other cars that i've own.

The old X5 took about 3 minutes
My current Audi takes around 5 minutes

The Prado must at least takes around 10 minutes.

yeah bit of a nightmare having to wait for everything to warm up before putting the heat down on the feet. definitely takes a little longer than most other cars I've owned.
not fun when you're going surfing at 530 am and your feet are already numb!

              first world problems...

My 120 D4D always heated up within 5 mins even in zero temps. Have to turn it down after 10 mins.

I only live 1km from work and I take the long way in by driving away from the office before turning back just to get the heater to work before I get there, and to not totally grenade the motor before I sell it, never warming it up can't be good. BUT, it is working fully by about the 700m mark which must be 2-3mins I'd say, that is including 6 degree mornings. The temp gauge moves only about 10% of the way to normal.

The best engine for warming up are subarus, both my old 2007 Forester XT and 2011 Outback are both working by the end of the street, thats about 1-2mins tops. Hot air before the temp gauge even moves!!

I find that its only around 5 mins for the heater to kick in, noticed scangauge reads around 45c when the fan starts. Meanwhile heated seats kick in straight away, never having had them before they are great while waiting for the heater.

Yes it's cold in melb atm & the coolant can take a bit to warm up, a very long time idling.

Ok so the bigger the cooling system the longer it takes, so a pulsar with 4 litres will be warm in 500mtrs.
The old EB falcon with 16 litres takes about 15k lol.......
But then they regularly had thermostats stuck open.

The Prado about 12lt, so not small.
Should only be 3-5 minutes if your driving.
                          Try a beanie.

                          Cheers,

Heated seats are electric trigger hence why it warms up instantly.
