  • Recovery Point or Hook?

    Hi,

I want to put some recovery points on the front of the car - they seem to be in cost range of $130 for the "points"
    http://www.marks4wd.com/rppra150.html

and just $20 for a iron man "hook"
    http://www.ironman4x4.com/products/r...-recovery-hook

Seems like a big difference... I know your probably get what you pay for, but will a hook get me out of most situations?

    thanks

I have the recovery points and they are solid units. Bought from marks too and the service is top notch and quick. Recommend them!

get the recovery points. they fit the existing mounting holes so no need to drill holes to mount them.

The stock standard hooks at the front of the 150, what are they rated too? ... they look pretty solid.

Yes, that is what it says in the book but they do look very solid, has anyone ever used them to pull a Prado out ?

You can probably tow using the OEM hoods - they are well and truly welded to the chassis. I wouldn't recommend snatching with them though.

ok ... Im sold - just need to find some local seller of some recover points... I went to a couple places on the Northern Beaches in Sydney - and they only had the hooks.

I'd rather get something that just takes 15 mins to install. Any ideas where in Sydneys North I can find a place that stocks them?

Im off on a trip end next week - so want to install them this weekend.

                      X 3 dont go there...
I have seen one of those tie down points let go on a snatch recovery of a 100 series. The shackle and part of the tie down punctured the cargo barrier of the tow vehicle but fortunately didnt go right through. The forces have to be seen to be believed. Snatching is without using the right gear is deadly.
My local TJM has Roadsafe recovery points so they might be worth a look if there is one handy

I have been looking at recovery points on the net and after looking at them I have been under the Prado with a torch.

Can someone who has fitted them to a Prado 150 with a Toyota Bull Bar tell me what brand they used please?

there's a few different brands out there. The roadsafe points do the job, not overly expensive etc.

                          The OP linked them here:
                          http://www.marks4wd.com/rppra150.html

They also have a kit (which i bought):
                          http://www.marks4wd.com/recovery-gear/rppra150kit.html

Which is handy - if someone is giving you the courtesy of pulling you out, you should be using your gear

                            Hi Nik,

I did have a look at that before and after looking under the bull bar, with no bull bar I can see how they would fit but with the BB and bash plates I can't work out where they could go.

Hopefully someone with a Toyota Bull Bar has fitted some and can tell me what to do

Perhaps a photo of the area will help determine how the points will fit.
