  • How to fit a Steinbauer chip

    Afternoon all ..

Went the 4x4 show on the weekend and bought myself a steinbauer chip for my prado 150 . Gavin the director said it a easy install so save me the 200 for install I thought I would do it myself. Now I will be the first to admit I wouldn't make a mechanics shoe lace but I learn fast. After looking at the one page instructions and the harness I thought ok this looks easy and then it set in where is the boost pressure sensor ? . I spent some 5 hours searching the internet to find nothing no install help no pics tried different things as in dropping words and so on and got frustrated to the point of almost hitting the key board . So I thought sunday drive to auto pro repco super cheap auto baun maybe one will have a manual nope so any of them know where its located nope . Rang united diesel yep its on the passenger side after the intercooler funny thing is I can find 5 plug connections there . So does any one 1 have one fitted 2 care to share a picture diagram or just some knowledge to a not so cluey person like myself .... Thanks in advance ...Steve

Can't help with your question but I can give you a bit of advice!

A thread title such as "How to fit a Stienbauer chip" would likely help you get your answer more easily, not to mention make it easier for the next person who is searching. Vague and non descript thread titles may be passed over by someone with your answer, they also become extremely difficult to search out for future reference.

    Cheers Andrew

Boost pressure sensor/ map sensor is the sensor bolted to your intake pipe, black plug, vacuum line underneath.

I went to the Perth show looking for Steinbauer but couldn't find them. Who did you get it from and how much?

I believe you can get them fitted for about 200 bucks.

Unless they've changed since I did mine about 18 months ago, I went something like this (from memory).
Red wire to + side of main battery, white to - side.
Grey wire to inside cabin to plug under accelerator pedal to connect to blue wire with silver line running along it.
Don't hold me to it, its just what I remember doing.

              Hello All

After some searching some advice from here and a little playing around job done in all after knowing what to do took I would say about 20 minutes and saved $200.00 . I don't have a site when I put pics on so here goes my example of fitting your own Steinbauer Chip to a 150 series . The harness should start from the rear of the engine and run up the injector line connecting to each injector along the way. The connection to boost sensor is easy its the plug on the right side of the intercooler pipe and has a vacuum hose underneath it that is the end of harness connections. There is a grey wire that you can use if you wish to add a switch to turn the unit off and on but I have chosen not to do that. The white wire curled up need to go the accelerator pedal plug which was easy to do I just fed it over to the driver side along the back of the engine bay and through the wall just above the pedal. There just above the pedal you will find the plug with some 6 wires coming out a little bit of black tape which I cut off so I could get to the wires easily with out pulling every thing out . The wire you need to join to is the darker blue one with a splash of silver going along it. I used a splicer connection to join the two wires a bit of tape back over them and then connect the power and negative to the battery. Job done .
First test was leaving work and with only a touch of the pedal I noticed the difference straight away more responsive to the pedal and more get up and go . Planning a trip to logue brook dam this weekend so will see how it goes with the camper on and a play in the forests so far im liking the more power and smother take off from before .

Thanks go to ############# who put me on the right track for looking what I needed to find and to Dobbo for remembering the right wire to connect to.

              Cheers all Steve

United Fuel were there they sell them but I found Gavin who is a director in the Diesel Care part of ultimate4wdequipment stand . He was doing 10% off on them and because I had a more straight through 3 inch exhaust I had to get the top module to stop over boost in the exhaust so 2k it cost me was $2270.00 but he knocked 270 off ... Just bought a Steinbauer and spent ages running the reference signal wire. Rereading the latest instructions that I download it says not to connect the reference signal wire.

                  Very confused, any suggestions?

Okay, found the answer to my question.

Latest versions of the Steinbauer (Since Feb 2015) don't need the reference signal wire. Saves a lot of stuffing around.

For $100 its possible to get your Steinbauer tested and updated to the latest firmware.

I have a 2yr old Steinbauer and would love to get the updated firmware. I also have since fitted a 3inch Taipan exhaust so was thinking of getting DieselCare to retune it for the new exhaust. How do you go about getting the firmware update?

Send it to the Australian distributor, just check on the website. I think they also stick on a D4D and test it. Don't you need a boost module with a bigger exhaust.

My harness plugs into the injector lines, then i have a + and - that goes straight on to my Battery.

takes 5 mins to put on and take off
