Hi there,

For the "Older Brigade" who wish to convert from l/100 kms to MPG, do the following.

1 ) Calculate l/100 kms

2 ) Divide 282.48 by l/100 kms.

3 ) You now have your Fuel Consumption in Miles Per Gallon.

And to convert from MPG to L/100KM do much the same.

1) Calculate MPG
2) divide 282.48 by MPG
3) You now have fuel consumption in L/100KM

I'm with you as the name might suggest! Miles per Gallon. Being a chippy among other trades metric is the only way to go for all else..
I like it when you ask drivers with the ( Other vehicles ) what mileage they get and the reply is if you have to ask that you can't afford one.
My reply is obviously you don't use it for what it is intended and go BUSH

Being one of the "Older Brigade", I still use a Calculator, Pad & Pencil to calculate & record my Fuel Consumption.

If it's like my 150's Computer, it's probably not terribly accurate.

If you are like me, you fill up when the gauge is heading towards empty, pay the cashier, and drive away. If I cared about economy, I would be driving a moped.

If you don't know your consumption rate how do you know if you have enough fuel to make the next servo or how much extra fuel you need to carry to safely make your next destination?

Having driven various vehicles for more than 40 years, I have a fair idea now. I am just not concerned like some others are.

I am much the same, I have a rough idea of how far I can get in certain terrains, after that I use as much as I use and that's the way it is, when it needs more fuel I put more in, it cost what it costs and I pay what it costs!

If people are going to quote fuel economy though, MPG suits me fine

There is 1.61 km to the mile
1 gallon equals 4.5609 litres
To convert KM travelled from Litres used to MPG use this formula
=KM/1.61/(LITRES USED/4.5609)

So kms travelled = 448
Litres used = 43.73
Gives 28.93 MPG

To calculate LPK with above figures
Litres used = 43.73
KM travelled = 448
Use this formula
=43.73/(448/100)
Gives 9.76 LPK
I have a spreadsheet incorporating above which shows
Total Cost Per Litres Per Miles Per Kms/
Cost Kilometer 100 km Gallon Litre % fill
