I'm hoping someone comes up with a hidden menu for the stereo as seen in other stereo versions. Looks like it opens up some nice settings that I guess only Toyota are supposed to know about. ie Deactivate not be able to enter and address into the the nav system while moving (passenger should be able to).

The menus mentioned earlier may not have been noticed as they are greyed out with just the auxiliaries turned on. ie one start/stop button press.
I don't know of any "hidden" menus for our system apart from the usual which I am sure you know about.
Turn headlights on three times while holding the Apps button for the Diagnosis check and the same while holding Audio button for the service menu.
(I don't think it means the vehicle service !)

I doubt there is much that can be done by the owner unfortunately. Toyota seem to have locked the head unit down pretty firmly, they don't want Australian customers to be able to update their navigation for nothing like European customers. How could they then charge us $300 for a map update which is 12-18 months out of date when it is released? (sorry i'm ranting again)

Interesting. There must be a way to allowing destinations to be put in while driving, there has to be other secret settings somewhere.Originally posted by JohnLynn View PostThe menus mentioned earlier may not have been noticed as they are greyed out with just the auxiliaries turned on. ie one start/stop button press.

Possibly but I doubt that Toyota would allow a menu to switch off what they regard as an important safety feature. I have always wondered why they don't fit a passenger seat sensor which could override not being able to enter an address while in motion but presumably Toyota think this could be tricked by putting a weight on the seat.
There is a wiring harness available that could alter the handbrake and or speed sensor wires to fool the head unit into thinking the vehicle is stopped without modifying the original wiring but I assume this would be illegal in Australia.

I don't understand what you are asking Doug. Do you mean the non nav head units fitted to current GX or previous GXL models?Originally posted by cuda View PostAnyone know what the model of the JBL or standard sat navs are? Might be able to find something by googling as people have worked out the previous stereo units in the states etc.
If so I think they are made by Fujitsu Ten the same as ours but ours have a socket missing from the rear which I have been told is a video input making it impossible to add a video interface. I can see that there definitely is a socket less but not sure what it's function is/was could someone enlighten us please?

What is the actual model number of the Nav systems supplied in the current facelift prado. Both GXL and VX (JBL system).Originally posted by JohnLynn View PostI don't understand what you are asking Doug. Do you mean the non nav head units fitted to current GX or previous GXL models?

Whoops, did some experimenting following your post re headlights on three times etc. and managed to reset the system. Had to re download all the Toyota Link apps, but good news I found there is a new one - time to location. I will try it out next trip. Thanks. I to would be interested in any other secret ways to access menus. I had not ever before heard of the one in the radio head unit you describe.

Hey JohnLynn,
Just found this
As far as i am aware with quite a few years playing around with these systems,
Here is how the iGo licensing system works for any head unit including Fujitsu Ten.
1. You put your GPS SD card into your computer and open naviextras toolbox or similar software.
2. You purchase a set of maps
3. The maps and all required files are downloaded to your SD card
4. The software reads your SD cards CID
(Your CID is usually stored in a file called device.nng with a checksum so you cant modify it, The reason for this is most USB card reader do not have hardware access to the SD card and cannot read the CID on your computer, however the GPS unit can)
5. The software then encrypts your purchased license using this CID key and puts the file on your SD card.
6. You put your SD card in your GPS.
7. iGo.exe opens your SD card and decrypts your license keys using the same CID.
8. If your license keys are ok then it all runs, if not you get the red license files and they will not run.
Now the chinese GPS units that you buy online running iGo that seem to run any map are because the license checks have been NOP'd from the iGo.exe as it is stored in plain site and can be edited.
The problem with our unit is that the iGo.exe is stored in the firmware which loads directly into ram and is almost impossible to modify at runtime.2018 150 Series Crystal Pearl Prado VX 2.8l. 2 inch King springs and Bilstein shocks, Airtek TJM snorkel.

Yes I have been and I am still reluctant to post too much on an open forum.
Obviously the readily available versions of (for instance) iGO and similar mapping software for android or win CE systems have a modified .exe therefore also widely available up to date maps will run just fine on them.
This is why our head units have only the map on the card. The program's .exe is hidden within the head unit, so it cannot be changed. There have been HU's where the file system could be accessed by such means as using a usb to network converter then getting access by telnet or ssh.
Our units get outgoing internet access to such things as fuel watch and Pandora, they must also "phone home" to check for updates as happened today.
I wont say any more but hope somebody comes up with an idea.

Thanks for the notes on the limit warning. It was 130kph by default from memory and I changed it to 100 to test it.
The video link from hergy closely matches what I found in the Prado. Odd that 'efficient ventilation' is set to ON by default for the Australian climate. Perhaps used to get those magic official economy figures. Climate control seems to work much better when this is OFF.
The navigation system does not seem to contain or use local speed limit warnings (Here Maps does) which is disappointing.
