  • Dealer always over fills engine oil.

Has anybody else noticed that there dealer always over fills with engine oil according to the dipstick. I have noticed this with my previous prado 120 and now the 150. The price they charge for oil you would think they would be lousy with it as it must be liquid gold.

Ha Ha yes they know how to charge for everything, perhaps they fill with the recommended quantity of oil even though all the old may not have drained completely.
Another possibility is you are checking after the vehicle has stood for long enough for oil in circulation to drain back into the sump? Anyway I would prefer mine to be overfull than under!

I've noticed that with every mechanic I've ever been to with any car. Must be something they're not telling us!

The 120 should be checked hot. If you check the oil cold it over reads on the dipstick. Mine is about 4-5mm too high cold versus spot on hot!
I would assume the 150 is the same.

When I was completing my apprenticeship 1992-1996 we were buying in bulk $1 a litre (big dealership truck to storage tank). Selling for around $8 a litre.
So it's likely not much more than $2 now lol..... They don't need to save it at that mark up.

Some 1kd tech info: check oil on flat ground, after being switched off for 5 minutes.
            Overnight will look overfull.

P.s I rather go over the full line a few mm, with 100-200ml than under the line, if its a tad under you will be asking questions, am I skimping on a bit of oil lol..... It it burning or leaking oil.....lol......
It's only a little bit over

Yes, 150s are the same, supposed to be checked hot. Checked cold will read overfull.
