Re: Is the 2010 FJ Cruisers a 150?

Yeah thanks for the link..... still no date on release ?

One of these will quite possibly be my next vehicle, sadly while i am 100% on my Prado , the new one just doesnt seem to have that rugged off road look , and if i put a 150 through what i have with my 120 .... it would have already cost me $1000's in panel work . While im sure its off road ability is as good if not better , they have definately made it look more like the glam shopping trolley that many current prados are used for, and at the price of a new GXL , they are way out of the ball park i would be prepared to pay for what i think of them .

Will definately be watching with interest 8)

Re: Is the 2010 FJ Cruisers a 150?

I thought I had posted the anticipated launch time window? Originally planned for mid this year and now pushed out to October/November but that is still not firm with my information saying it may slip to first quarter 2011. I will know more over the next few months once the 2010 launch plan is finalised and I get a briefing

Re: Is the 2010 FJ Cruisers a 150?

Good to see the FJ as an OZ release. the truck was meant for you guys.

The FJ can take a beating. I have hit several of the body panels on the fenders and they just pop back out with no damage. My FJ's body looks untouched except for pin-striping in the paint die to close trails. The only concern I can see is the fuel capacity. The Prado has a reserve tank and without one the FJ will be hard pressed to make it into some towns. I keep 4 spare Scepter gas cans (20 L ea.) when I exp just to keep the thirsty FJ going.

One thing going for the FJ is that it is set up a lot different than the 120 to prevent trail damage. The bumpers are higher, and is available with more trail armor than the Prado. The mirrors are set up to be more vertical as opposed to horizontal to make the FJ narrower, and has a 109" wheelbase as opposed to the Prado's 120, so it can get into (and out of) tighter spots.

There are several aftermarket companies, so there will be no shortage of trail armor and stronger pars to make it out immediately once the FJ goes on sale.

If anyone has any questions ask. I'm practically an FJ expert.

Re: Is the 2010 FJ Cruisers a 150?

I agree with many here as we are currently contemplating upgrading our current 120, and I just think the 150 has gotten too expensive and too far away from a useable offroader. Even the 120 has too much plastic for my liking, the new hilux forum had the pics below of what the 4 door may look like being based off the US 4Runner. I like it a lot and I have read that pricing will start around 40k so optioned up it will be a reasonably priced vehicle. Engine wise the US 4 Runner gets a factory V8 so if the 4 door had that I would be extremely keen. The only thing I am still waiting to hear is if it will be a 5,7 or 8 seater at this stage I am seriously considering one.

That is the FJ-Runner by Mike Vu of MV Designs. He took a 4-Runner and gave it the look of the FJ Cruiser for an aftermarket convention called SEMA in Las Vegas. It was when the FJ Cruiser was going to be discontinued and a cheaper Entery level 4-Runner with a V6 was going to replace it.

                  Hi Folks

Talk about ruggedess and panel damage... the FJ in the press and photos has more tearable plastic than the 150 series (which has none), body panel damage is dependant on the number of bends in the panel for strength, I don't see many more on the FJ than the Prado.

And I'm not sure if the "retro" look will pay off for resale too anybody but an enthusiast. The 150lt tank is also a big advantage.

                  Regards, Richo.

The FJ Cruiser has black plastic pannels that don't match the body color so when they do get scraped or crushed can be replaced in minutes without the cost of painting. They are made to protect the body pannels and paint work and are designed that way.

Huge difference the problem with the Prado is nobody makes decent protection, as nice as ARB gear is to me it doesnt fit the criteria I like.

The FJ can be made into an absolute trail tough rig, which imo is a big thing, the Prado is way too prone to damage and a long range tank is an easy fit and has been done for years on heaps of 4wds. Personally I would prefer to see the 4Runner come to Oz but the FJ will be a big look in for me should it come here in a 4 door with 7 seats.

A few decent mods and barwork and its better protected than a 150 could ever be, not to mention the shape lends itself beautifully to tube flares etc.

Re: Is the 2010 FJ Cruisers a 150?

Of those 3 FJ, two are owned by friends. The first was built up by a magazine and is a pre prediction FJ. It's a rock crawler on 37" tyres and was crushed late last year. The middle one is a guy on FJCruiserforums.com, and the last is Todd's rig. He invested over $130K (US) with a fiberglass front end, Demello tube bumper, long travel suspention, roll cage, custom 17" topo Nav., and a supercharger. He ended up selling it for a mere $55k (Us) late last year.

The FJ is a lot less refined than the 120 and far removed from the 150. It's specifficaly designed for off-roaders, surfers, and the like.

There is a reserve tank available from Man-A-Fre, but it's aftermarket and a system using the 120's componants would probably be better.

No problems with the FJC. If anything the traction control kicks on too easy. A lot of us in the club have disabled the TC.

Consumer Reports actually rated the FJC as the #1 SUV on the US market and the Land Cruiser #2 (along with the Rav-4 and Highlander (Kluger) to sweep the top 4 spots)

The latest update on arrival of FJ in Australia is that it is now delayed until around March 2011. This is to allow a model upgrade on the production line in Japan where the Australian version will now be sourced from.
