Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

No safety triangle supplied in UK models - may be an EU requirement - but not here in the UK it seems ....

Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

Called a Toyota dealership about the pliers and was told that quite frankly they are made of cheap, soft metal and that I would be better off sourcing my own better quality ones.

Found a pair of Diamond 6" slip-joint pliers in my tool box and it fits the door compartment press plate perfectly. I am not sure that 6-1/2" will fit.

      Possible source: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-DIAMOND-USA-6-S ... 3cb047576c

Now to find an 8mm/10mm combination open-ended spanner.

Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

I telephoned my Toyota dealership Parts Department and asked for the 8-10mm open-ended combination spanner. He said the computer only shows the 12-14mm spanner for the 150 Series and nothing for the space above it. I then said to try the 120 series as I have seen a full press board from the door of a 120 series. Sure enough there is a listing and they have them in stock.

A measly $AUD4 + GST. How hard-up are Toyota that they cannot supply a full tool kit when we spend so much money on these vehicles.

I'll post a photograph when I have collected and fitted it.

LaoK, you seem to be working really hard to complete that toolbox of yours. It's like an easter egg hunt on a puzzle board, only instead of eggs you're looking for tools and the tools are the puzzle pieces  mmm easter break, can't wait for it!!

The way I see it is that, the rear door tool box is there for you to perform a wheel change in the event of a puncture. IMHO anything extra would be a bonus. I've had many cars in the past and I've never had one that came with tools, so I'm happy to get a screw driver and other little bits n pieces. Sure, you parted with a great deal of coin, but you did pay for a car and not a toolbox lol  Look at it this way, Toyota have gone to the trouble of premoulding their toolbox so that YOU could fit in some extra tools that you may want

Anyway, the Prado's trimmings (such as the front grill, interior panels etc) are held in by clips, screws and bolts. Not sure why you would need to do any of that on the road, but if you do, the tools supplied are sufficient - I'm sure you could have gone by without a pair of "Toyota genuine" pliers! If you're looking to do other things (presumably bigger jobs), I'm sure you wouldn't be on the road and would have access to a proper tool kit.... and if you are on the road, I'm sure you'd have prepared for it earlier and packed a full tool kit. FYI, I permanently store some additional tools in the car, the tools that come with the car just don't cut it for me

          Cheers

I have METRINCH, SIDCHROME, PROTO, SNAP-ON etcetera tools but don't really want to carry them around all the time. I just want a full plate in the door.

            That's just me.

Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

It's not about the tools you own, but what you do with them I never said to load up every tool you own. Just take with you the ones you reckon you'll use. I understand that you want a full factory tool kit but even with that, there's only so much you could do with a pair of pliers and a spanner. There's plenty of room on the rear door and rear quarter panel compartments for other (more proper) tools you may want.

From the top of my head, I'll suggest a few things that I carry to give you a rough idea: vice grip, ratchet w/ full socket set, adjustable wrench, pliers, cable ties, electrical tape, scissors, box cutter, screw drivers... Everything gets stored away neatly... I've used everything listed at least once, whether it be at a mates house, out in the bush or where ever.

              Cheers

Holy Moly. I only want one spanner and a pair of pliers not an argument. I just thought I may be helping others who want to fill the gaps.
                Nothing more, nothing less.

And I carry other bits too but I just want a full tray in the door. So, shoot me!

Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

Those pliers might be crappy but they sure come in handy when you go to undo the shackles on the trailer safety chains, used mine in the 120 heaps of times. I also permanently carry a quite extensive tool kit, however the tool kit on the back door is easier to access. Well worth a few bucks to throw a set in i reckon.

I just filled the spare tool spots in my prado I went to the spare part department at my local Toyota turns out that they are the same as the tools in a huliux so ordered the plilers and the missing spanners cost about $6.00 per tool.
So I'm happy now all the holes are filled in my tool kit just a pity toyota are to tight to give them to you when you buy a $60 thou car but that's toyota for you.

Next time you get a hire car get a Toyota and 'borrow' the pliers and spanner from its tool kit!

What current Toyota vehicle has a complete toolbox? If you get another 150 there wont be any pliers or spanners.... I doubt the hilux has one which leaves the LC200. Ah! but then, maybe some evil genius thought of it before you - or heck, maybe they're missing in the LC200s too!  So I assume you're one to take the towels and slippers when staying at a hotes?

Guys i dont even have the plastic bit in my 120. it must have gone missing over the years. Ive tried shooting of a bunch of emails to toyota wreckers but so far no luck. Do any of you guys on here have a spare tool kit kicking around that you may want to make some $$$ off? Im just worried that if i get a puncture i cant even change the wheel!

All the tools are present and account for in the LC200 tool box.

                              Gay pliers - check.

                              Open ended spanner - check.
