Re: 2nd start button
Hi Guys,
Get ready to cry. Just saw your post and couldn't resist sharing this.
In 2006 I purchased a new Prado Grande (Which I am now trading for a Kakadu)
I pretty much understood what the 2nd start button did (Stops the car from using first gear, there by reducing torque at the wheels and hopefully giving you a better chance of not spinning the wheels by applying too much power. Can also be used to get a less jerky start if you are carrying something fragile)
Anywhat I thought I would ask the question when the dealer at Toyota in Wangarra was taking me for a test drive.
So I ask. "The 2nd start button restricts the gearbox from using 1st gear doesn't it?"
Dealer - "No, what that does is, if you're in sandy or muddy conditions and you get bogged, you push the button and it gives you a second go at it"
Awsome. I'm not sure if you have to create a savepoint first though

Re: 2nd start button
hi, the second start button is also useful when you want to tackle a dune or similar from a standing start with a short run up, but, need the speed of second gear to get over, i have used it heaps of times in this situation and it works great.

Digging up and old thread, but need to ask those people 'in the know'...
My VX seems to hesitste when I put my foot on the accelerator from a standstill, and then lurches a little on take off. I tried the 2nd Start button just in normal road driving for about 10 minutes and it worked a treat- much better. Question is though would this hurt or damage anything if you use it all the time (ie, left it switched on permanently)?
Cheers,

Don't know if it will damage anything but you might want to consider the Wind Booster

For most of us in Aust 2nd start is used when in low range. An auto Prado will always take off in first gear unless 2nd start in engaged. In low range this results in a highly loaded, harsh change into second gear. I always hit 2nd start when selecting low range, it is a shame you cannot start in third because a second gear start usually results in a change to third two car lengths from takeoff and in steep country this will be at the steepest part off a track just as you leave a humpty. Now guys, leave the bitumen behind and find a hill to try it out on.Prado Polar White 150 GX 3.0 TD Auto. The 2nd start button seems superfluous to me as the current auto transmission appears to hold whichever gear is selected manually regardless, so theoretically 2nd, 3rd,4th or even 5th gear starts are possible without the buttonIf the wind don't blow, the world don't suck and we all fall off
