    Re: GX Vs GXL

I ended up with a Buying a GX auto D4D, Reasons were - 1) Wanted 5 Seater 2) Was happy with safety specs on GX 3) Didn't want plastic sidesteps 4) Can live without climate control and rear reverse camera 5) Happy to live with black door handles and mirrors 6) I orginally was looking at a 120 Series GXL and found for the money I could get a brand new 150 Series GX which comes with more. I don't think resale will be a problem in 2/3 years. I paid a lot less (7k i think) for the GX against the GXL and i reckon that will still be the difference in 3 years. No disrespect to GXL owners.
I have done 3000kms in my car and very happy overall. Though he is looking a bit bare at the moment. To come will be a ARB Bullbar, Roofracks, Dual Battery system, Rear Drawers, Radio and some better tyres. Can't wait to hit the road.

            Well done CBM8880,

That'll be a nice rig when you get it

The only think I would change is having the door handles colour coded, and maybe a bar !

              Thanks BenTas,

We are planning on doing a camper trailer around Australia trip in about 12 months, so thats when a camper trailer and part (ii) of the plan comes along (snorkel, bar, suspension, etc).

                Re: GX Vs GXL

                Hi there
What everyone is missing out upon is the rear Seats on the GX.
There are none and the Floor level is a good 6" lower than the GXL.
Therefore when you mount a Fridge onto the floor its much more easily accessable.
If you were to put Drawers in you could have them come to the same height as the Fridge.
AS far as side airbags the GX has them so Toyota says no side steps as do ARB.
The steps are not necessary as my Parents in law @ 89 find ease in entering the car for a ride.

                    GX Vs GXL

My GX has now had the tyres and wheels replaced, side steps added, cc arb bull bar, dual battery, rhino racks plus alloy rack, power outlets to the rear and black widow draws refitted from old car. Oh and the UHF and electric brake controller refitted.

Next week the arb suspension goes on. Ipf lights, blackwidow seat covers and moulded mats go in.

With the money I saved from buying GX manual I have paid for the mods!

                      Re: GX Vs GXL

The GX has just been delivered and I am uber impressed!!! It comes with a few things that I didn't realise were on the list :
Trip computer with full fuel usage functionality and outside air temp gauge.
Electronic lumbar support control on the drivers seat.
                      Electronically adjustable headlight tilt.
Vented centre console (not enough to be a cool box though)
"Pleather" gear selector shoe and inboard knee rest areas for drive and front seat passenger.

Maybe some of you read the spec sheet closer than I, but for a "poverty pack", I think the GX exceeds all expectations. When I think of more that surprised me I will add to the list.

                      Cheers!

You can now get Cooper ST in 245/70x17" which, on the Cooper website, is supported on a wheel width of 6.5".

So there is no issues getting an all terrain tyre for the GX Prado now.

Here is the link to the Cooper tyre fitment guide:

Only Cooper ST is available in the GX size of 245/75x17" but not the Cooper ST-C.

                        (GXL is 265/65x17")
