  • Clutch smell on MY18

    G'day all!

I've just noticed my auto MY18 Prado smell like clutch burning while being park after short or long drive. It's got 1,200 k's on the clock and it seems to be fine but I'm not really sure. Do i need to worry or is this normal? Could someone please enlighten me? TIA

        Low transmission fluid level?

I've a 2018 Prado. Now done about 1300km and regularly, when I stop, there's been a strong stink of something like burning paint and hot metal. Haven't worried because assumed that it was the paint on the exhaust or the hot cat converter or some such. Water temperature is ok so not concerned.

Most likely the DPF as they can reach over 700C doing a burn which happens around every 300Kms.

Agreed - it's doing a burn of the DPF. You'll also see a higher idle (900prm in the auto and 1200 in the manual trans)
              Cheers

Ah - so that's why it was idling fast the other day. Can't remember if it was smelling at the same time but probably was.

DPF doing its burn. Smelled heaps when the car was new.

Having had a couple of DPFs... yes - as other say it's the DPF. It goes after about 2000km's or so. Was told its excess coating around it that you can smell burning off...

Thanks guys! was been told by the dealer that it was pretty much normal for a new car.
