Climate control dial pushed in

So, my son was frsutrated that the rear button was a bit stuck (i think something was spilled on it) so he hit it hard. all that happened was the entire dial pushed back into the console.
the dial and button still work, but i can't work out how to pull it back.

is there an easy way to "pop" it back somehow?

Grip the whole unit with both hands and simply pull it out, it should be easy to push the button back then from the rear. The unit is only held in with clips, if it is hard to start to move it you could insert something plastic or even a screwdriver wrapped in something to prise it a little.

Yeah so this happened to me last night. I pulled the unit apart and the issue is there is a white spacer that seems to have broken its clips which stops it from being in the "out" position rather than being stuck in.

Hoping I might be able to find just the white spacer, but don't even know where to begin to look. A new a/c control panel seems overkill

sorry, been AWOL. toyota replaced the climate unit under warranty (apparently it had 'stopped' working)
