Have a look underneath the sills around the area beneath the centre door pillar. There's a wire coming down from underneath the front seats & ending in a blank plug on a bracket under the sill. I've been told this is for under sill lights in the Kakadu. Whether this is correct or not I don't know as I've never checked it out but could worth putting a multi meter on the plug & see when you get any readings.
Give it a go & let us know what you find out.Prado 150 2.8 GX Auto - ARB Bull Bar, Towbar, Dual Batteries, UHF, 2" lift with King Springs & Bilsteins

I spent a couple of hours on the side step wiring on my GXL over the weekend. I pulled all the wiring diagrams and plug layouts for the LH Footwell. I traced just about every plug that references the Side Step and I was unable to locate a loop down to the plug under the sill. One of the pins is Earthed. That surprised me as when I activated the Red Ambient Lights on the map light unit all I had to do was earth one pin to get them working. I assumed the side step lights would be the same - no such joy.
There must be something somewhere that activates the circuit, I just have not found it. I also couldn't locate a pin on any the the plugs that powered up with the Door Courtesy or Internal Lights. I initially thought if I could locate that circuit activation I could just use that to switch a relay for some step lights. No joy.
I like the idea of piggybacking the internal lighting circuit so the step lights come on when you walk up to the vehicle with the key in your pocket. I guess some day when I have more time I might try it again.
