ARB SUMMIT BAR fitted to new 2018 GXL and marking paint

Hey All,

i recently had ARB head office fit out my new 2018 GXL Prado with a heap of stuff (1.5 week ago)!

This weekend i took it out fir the first time this weekend to Newnes and Gloworm tunnel and was disappointed with a few things related to the Summit bar.

The shaking of the bar has caused the rubber strips and paint to mark on both sides of the bar and there is also a terrible noise relating to the vibration also...

I think both are related and am actually booked in this Tuesday to fit the UVP which wasn't in stock when i got the other kit installed! (im thinking that i won't get the uvp fitted but have them check out the bar first before spending more money !!!!)

Has anyone else experienced this with their 150s and summit bars?

Hi Rosifumi, is the vibration something you can feel or is it the visual of seeing the summit bar moving?

Hey Roksy,

You can feel and here it pretty bad on the right hand side near the dual battery they mounted
The bar is now marked/ scratched because of the rubber rubbing on the same spot so i suspect this is the issue. I am going to see them tomorrow so we se what they have to say

If the Inner wheel arch covers are not trimmed enough when the bar is fitted they car make a horrible noise over any bumps

Hi Rosifumi, I have a summit bar on my new Prado. It certainly does appear to move more than my last one. It’s solid enough so unless they have softened up the rubber body mounts on the chassis there would be no reason for it to move any more than before. I certainly don’t have any rubbing or funny noises apart from a creaking noise from the plastic wheel arch thingys when I get in and out. Sounds like yours has been poorly fitted.

I have had the summit bar fitted on my '18 Prado for a few months. In this time I have done some rough tracks and the bar has rubbed up against the black pinchweld (this looks like rubber) that is in between the steel bar and the plastic under the head lights. It has rubbed through the paint on both sides. Not happy...

Same thing with mine. ARB increased the gap by slightly lowering the bar. It does seem to move a lot more than on my previous 150. Seems like the rubber mounts that isolate the body from the chassis have more give than before. By the way has anyone with a GXL and Summit bar fitted a winch, and if so does it interfere with the radar cruise control. I have lights which seem ok but a winch controller sticking up in the middle may be very different.

sleeky5, I mounted the control box under the summit bar top "hatch" so as it is hidden inside. The control box plug connection is easily accessed through one of the front (plastic) "doors". Looks tidy as.

I’ve got my 18 VX fitted with a summit bar a few months ago.

Yes, the bar moves as when you drive, and the under wheel arch cover makes lots of noise when over moderate bumps. The driver side is more often happening and noticeable than passenger side.

Hi Op/replyers,

Any updates regarding the rattles/shakes etc... woth the Summit Bar?

I'm currently in the market for a bull bar (TJM Outback or ARB Summit). I've also came across other reviews from other sources with the same concerns, mainly the current model Hilux.

For what its worth I have a Summit bar on my 2018 GXL that I fitted myself and iv had no dramas at all. But I also take pride in my work. Some do not.
