  • 150 holds revs then clunks

    Hi all,
I have a bit of a weird one and can't find an answer when searching, so I'm hoping someone can tell me.

Sometimes (not all the time) I put in the breaks semi hard and stop i.e. stop at a around about a bit quicker than normal. The Prado will hold the revs around 800-900rpm and a few seconds later I hear a clunk and a jolt as if someone has hit be back of me slightly and then the rpm goes back to normal.

I did think it could be a rear tailshaft clunk, but would that hold revs too?

    Does anyone have any ideas.
I'm due a the 150k service soon so if I know what it is it might prepare me if it's a big issue.

Just for reference: it's a 150 petrol in otherwise good Nick and not taken off-road.

    Any help would be great.

That would be your tail shaft. it might need a grease at your next service... I notice the clunk is worse when breaking sharply and stopping. Its a pretty normal "issue" on the prados.

        Thanks
blw. I was thinking it was the tailshaft, but I can't find anywhere that a tail shaft issue would hold the revs too so I threw me off thinking that.
Would a tailshaft issue hold revs?

gday stewy, how did you go ? .a doomp feeling/noise is normal at stopping on 150 prado (99% of people dont notice) .it is relevant to the rear tailshaft slip joint .be carefull not to over grease it or it will cause a vibration, rpm increase is a total mystery to me .dont know if this is normal because this is a rare vehicle . maybe you could check fj cruiser sites ,as the mechanicals are the same
