  • Installing Prado 120 fuel subtank into a Prado 150

Has anyone replaced the Prado 150 subtank with the larger Prado 120 subtank to increase fuel capacity?

Have thought about it but when it all boils down one $25 jerry can nearly gets you there for those extremely rare times where you need it eg on CSR . I think the fuel feed between the 2 tanks varies but I may be wrong on this. Fuel is available in the most remote places in this wide brown land. I have covered pretty much all of remote Australia in a petrol V6 Prado and now a diesel 150 and have never found the 150 l in the 150 diesel to be a problem. The trick is to fill up wherever the option presents when inland.. I have had up to 6 jerries strapped down where the middle row of seats is for extremely remote WA and on a trip coming up in 3 weeks covering most of the Beadell roads in WA I will have 3. The bigger tank would only mean one less.

Carried 2 Jerries on the CSR in June. Usually carry one on long remote trips as contingency, but find its just takes up valuable space.
Did Halls Creek to Kunawardji easily on the factory tanks. Emptied both Jerries on the stretch down to Wiluna, but only needed one.
With 180L fuel I wouldn't carry Jerries anywhere. It'l free up space.
I surmise that the 120 subtank needs a little more volume (which should be do-able) and different mounting points to the 150 subtank.
The fuel transfer mechanism is likely unchanged, so all the hoses might just plug-in.
The setup will need a new compliance plate. The fuel meter wont read quite right tho', c'est la vie.
