you guys probably already worked it out, but the green ECO light was annoying me, and I eventually worked out how to turn it off. Very happy now

Well one way would be to just push the accelerator harder ;-)

Seriously though, it's pretty easy to turn off, but it doesn't bother me either.

Perhaps posting how it is done? instead of a cryptic set of question/answer/ statements?

        Ooops sorry.

There's a small button (labelled ODO Trip) under the dash light illumination light (rhs of instrument panel) that cycles the info on the centre of the instrument panel. Cycle through until you get to the Eco On display, then hold down the button until it changes.

Tried that on my VX and it didn't work.

With the VX you use the buttons on the right hand side, from memory you have to have the vehicle running, and select using the paddle, push in the paddle and hold it in, also the button immediately to the left. It is in the manual. You can change all sorts of options, including lighting brighness, headlight delay etc.

                    Cheers

Old post but I have to ask. On a GX auto. Is the ECO function just a light for a heavy foot or just it change shift patterns ???
I ask because my auto has the dreaded flat spot even after a ECU flash. But tonight I turned it off and the flat spot seems to have gone. Weird az I know.

                      Cheers

Disregard. Wifey bumped the gear shifter across on me I think and that would explain the better shifting.

Side topic... I have a suspicion that the Eco light is so rigged. The way I read what it's for is that it shows the driver when the engine is being run up to a certain fuel consumption level at any given time. OK... fair enough but I noticed when the cruise control is engaged then the light never goes off. I could be driving up from the hill from Ourimbah (long steep freeway hill) at 110 and the transmission drops back and the engine revs harder... the light stays on. Now without the cruise control, there is no way I can get the Prado make that same climb, maintaining 110 while keeping the Eco light on. I am thinking it a secret conspiracy by Toyota to.... um ... I don't really know. Just strange. Anyone else noticed this too?

Great to hear! Glad I am not going crazy and I am the only one seeing this. This light is doing my head in.

It seems to be the modern day equivalent of the manifold vacuum gauge on the old VC Commodores but with some digital Toyota propaganda thrown in for good measure. While it is probably just as useless, at least it doesn't take up the same amount of cluster panel real estate as the speedo, like that gauge used to.
