I just received my SR5 Mudflaps from Thailand via ebay, they look spot on $134 for 4 arrived at Perth in one week...

Approached my dealer yesterday.

I live on a 1 kilometre up a gravel road. After only 2500 k's there is aleardy evidence of stone damage. Got the big boss out to view it who claims I was the first to report it. (Hobart, Tasmania). Asked him if he spent 60k on a vehicle would he accept it. No response! Told him don't care what Toyota say, I bought the vehicle off him so he is responsible. He got all the head people from the service department out, lot's of photo's taken etc, etc. Has promised to get back to me this week.

I'll be chasing him daily after that.

For a reputable brand like Toyota to say that the have tested the car to Australian conditions is an absolute lie.

Keep on them. The initial response i got was that they had not heard of the issue, however the head of service, who the sales guy sent my details to said that they had heard about the issue, it was a known problem and Toyota was working on a solution. You would think that after a year of having the vehicle on the market that they would have a solution by now?

In response to my local dealer’s 10,000Km service survey, I returned a lengthy letter of disappointment to the dealer re: the inadequate rear mudflaps. The dealer was good enough to phone and claimed I was the first person to bring the issue to their attention. They went on to say that any repair or modification work would be done at my own expense.

Nearing the end of the conversation he said that the more people complain the higher the likelihood of Toyota listening.

I got called in to my dealer yesterday so they could see what console parts need replacing regarding my problem.

I chatted with the Service Manager and mentioned the mudflaps not protecting the paint work properly. He said that he and Toyota Australia are aware of it but there is no solution at the moment.

Hey has anyone got photos of the SR5 mudflaps fitted and part numbers or is there only one type? I feel comfortable spending around the $100 - 150 to fix the issue myself in anticipation of slow corporate motion. Not keen on the $370 for the alternatives.

Hello, might be stupid question. But whats stopping people from going to there local rubber store and making their own. Seems a bit odd guys are paying $400 for a bit of rubber off cut. 6 nuts and bolts, a stanely knife and some rubber should do the trick.

A few people have apparently, but they have falled apart over time. Presumably this is less time than the car model has been out. Although suggestion in line with common sense - custom jobs followed by someone cashing in.

We need to approach a mudflap manufacturer (class action, LOL) and encourage the manufacture of a set of good quality mudflaps for our Prado's that will fit over, or in place of, the originals. Nice to be able to change if we need the original approach and departure angles.

We should all keep an eye out for mudflap manufacturers if we visit Super Cheap Autos or Auto One then write to them with our problem defined and requesting a product be made to solve it.

I could wait for Toyota to solve this issue but I will be in a retirement village by then and driving a different sort of vehicle (pensioner buggy) around the grounds.

Ok guys, I went to clarke rubber and bought 2m of 6mm rubber. I needed the following.
very sharp stanely knife
Drill with 5mm drill bit.
16 of 5mm nuts and bolts with 32 extra wide flat washers
Ruler
Set square if wanted.

I made mine about 220mm longer from the base of the orig mudflaps.

Was very easy. Jst hope they last.




I could prob make this for anyone if wanted for around $250.
Didnt cost myself this much to make so i highly recommmend having a go yourself but will make if u want.

Did you use the existing mudflap as your template cutout? It looks that way.

Got a phone call from my dealer today (out of the blue) letting me know they have the new longer mudflaps in stock and will be replacing the old ones front and back. He said he is putting through on a warranty claim and will replace the damaged rear bumper with a new one as well. They will order a new bumper and replace this and the mudflaps together.
Again I was told like other have said, it is because I put through the service report about this issue at a service.
