I have yet to take photographs because i had them fitted then went straight to work. I will do it soon.

They only replace the rear mudflaps and there is part of the plastic moulding attached. My guess is that this comes in black as my dealership had them pre-painted in Sandstone for me prior to my attendance this morning but they were concerned that there is not a perfect match in colour. I was asked to enter the workshop and decide whether to accept the new mudflaps or reject them and ask for a better colour match. Apparently painting plastic and matching colours is not that easy.

I was happy just to have longer mudflaps and i can tolerate the slight colour difference.

We stood back and discussed the new mudflaps and the DEPARTURE angle and think that with these new longer mudflaps being fitted as standard (on the rear) of all new Prado's there are going to be a lot of complaints from the bush-bashers that their mudflaps have ripped off.

In the car park that I normally park in I reverse close to a kerb (to protect their walls) and I always drop my suspension height. The new mudflaps are lower and I had to be careful that I didn't damage them. It turned out that my usual stopping distance from the wall is far enough away from the kerbing for me not to worry but my mudflaps would strike the kerb otherwise.
This is something to keep in mind.

They only replace the rear mudflaps

I received front and rear mudflaps. Ring your dealer and enquire about the replacements for the front set. They do exist.

Yep definitely front and rear should be supplied.

I'm happy with mine. They work well in stopping mud getting thrown onto both the rear bumper (rear flaps) and the bottom of the front doors (front flaps).

They are pretty flexible so can't see them being much trouble off road. They are now a lot more like the standard flaps on the 120 (both in length and flexibility). Can't remember seeing too many complaints from 120 owners re ripping them off offroad so presume they'll be ok.

Re the insert, yes they come standard in black. I have left mine black (it suits the white car with black flaps and dark side steps) although the dealer did offer to paint them for me.

Thank you. The front mudflaps were fitted this morning. They got left behind (yesterday) at the paint shop by mistake.

Initially only 100 sets of mudflaps came into the country and with all of the re-tooling costs, VSR compliance, testing, etc. the first 100 mudflaps cost $5,000 per set. The price will be more reasonable as the manufacturing process settles down.

The photograph has been touched-up by me to show what it would look like unpainted.

BIg problems with rock damage, front and rear, the stones seems to be able to flick up infront of the side steps somehow.
Ive looked at the option of bolting on after maket mud flaps (just regular ones with a big white '4X4' label) onto the standard ones..look ok, but i think they will be too rigid if I get anywhere near soft sand or mud.

Toyota have no solutions for me at this stage

Hi All,

I had the new Toyota mudflaps fitted during the 20K service a few weeks back. I've just checked the invoice and no part number was listed.

The invoice states, "Consequential damage to external body work caused by mudflaps. Ineffective performance of mudflap to deflect road debris. R&R affected parts as required."

It clearly states in the charges column that it is a "Warranty" cost i.e. $0 .

My mate went in a couple of days later to request that some new mudflaps were fitted to his truck and was told that I had the only set issued to the Dealer. He's still waiting.

The mudflaps will not be available for the public until about June 2011. A good Toyota dealership will know this.
I contacted the dealership from whom I bought the Prado and they informed me that there was only 100 mudflap sets in the country and the mining companies got first dibs. They got me a set and they were fitted on March 31.

They cost Toyota $5,000 per set (re-tooling costs, etc.). Look at my previous posting with photographs.

There are Toyota dealerships, and then there are Toyota Dealerships. I got a different story (just like you) from another dealership. Go figure. Some have their head in the sand, others have their finger on the pulse.

Obviously the dealership I go to must have sand in their ears as they informed me that Toyota was not going to replace the mudflaps and I would have to purchase my own after market set. Also, as I have minimal damage to the underside of the rear panels the flaps would not be replaced under warranty if a claim was made.

Finally our dealership has taken our particulars regarding the alternative mudflaps. Initially they did not know what we were talking about. We're now third on the list for replacements. Can't wait for them to arrive.

We think we might make some in preparation for a trip to Lake Eyre.

Finally I got to get out for a bit of good off road driving over the May day weekend. Great time & I can report that the Toyota replacement mud flaps did a great job. I saw mud flaps on Cruisers & Navara's get fairly damaged, but the new ones on my Prado haven't got a mark on them.
They stopped all of the mud from landing under the rear guards and only a small amount of mud ended up on top of the side step on the rear end.
Am very happy with them.

Did you get your replacements from Carney's in Townsville? If so, did you have much trouble getting them? Was told by Carney's that Toyota were aware and replacement would eventually happen.
