Re: New 150's GXL Diesel Prado on Order.....

Yeah thanks for that.....I understand about using the SAME GRADE or SPECS of oil, but what my main concern is using a DIFFERENT BRAND (Same Grade though) of oil than what is used at the Toyota Servicing......

Like someone using a Shell Oil and then the Toyota Servicing using a Caltex Oil, but both meeting the required Toyota's Manufacturer's guidlines for the D4D motor.....I'm not sure what "Brand" my local Toyota Service's use but I'm guessing it will be a different BRAND to what I would be using.... but the SAME Specs though

    cheers.....

There was a happy end to the story (which can be found here http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9920 but I think it shows that it pays to use the correct oil.

Hello Rob. I'm also in the market for the same vehicle. Are you able to tell me the drive-away price? I realise QLD on-road prices are different from NSW but any price guide may help. Regards, Ian

I can, but I'm getting a Novated Lease via my work so the price will be different w/o GST + Dealer Discount of $5200

          Hi Rob Mc,
I noticed in the top right of my windscreen was an oil change reminder sticker that the dealer had placed there to remind me to change the oil at 1000km. It was a valvoline branded sticker with the dealers details embossed in it.
I've changed my oil at the 1000km mark with valvoline oil, SUPER DIESEL 15W-40.

Truth be told, I reckon each dealer would use any of the major branded oils with which they could get their hands on at a reasonable price.

          Cheers
          Rob

My sticker says Castrol...not that it actually means that's what they used.

Sooooo.... I assume it should be OK then for me to use a diferent "brand" of oil than what Toyota uses, as long as it meets Toyotas "specs/grade" for my 5000k intermediate oil change ???

                150 D4D oil change

Whilst I agree with, and carry out, the 5K oil change, I am of the opinion that if filter is not also changed you are wasting your time and expensive oil. Clean oil in dirty filter !!! ??

I intend to replace the oil & filter at the 1000km service. I am doing this as I WILL be traveling on dirt in outback between the 1000 and 10,000km mark. I know it is not free but am happy to pay. Someone commented to watch the service and ensure it is done properly. How can you do this considering they sit you in the "waiting area" and it would be an OH&S issue to have customers watching what is done? I know you could ask for the old parts, but they could show you anything.

OP I have owned many new cars and have given them heaps from the moment I drive out the dealers drive way. When my mates who own the same car drive mine they always say, "your's is faster than mine".
