Love the current 120 series but due to personal reasons, I have to hold off on purchasing one. So I'd like to ask the members here when the new shape is arriving?
Given the model evolution so far and the very strong sales figures, I wouldn't hold my breath for the next generation mid-sized Toyota 4WD wagon any time soon. I think Toyota will be concentrating on the new 200 series for at least the next two years.
Maybe 2009-2010 will see the next Prado, 140 series maybe?
Drew.
2005 Toyota LandCruiser GRJ120R Prado "Pilbara" (GX+) Petrol V6 5 Speed Auto, ARB AirLocker rear diff locker, Safari Snorkel, Bilstein Shocks, OME 2" Lifted Springs, PolyAir airbags, bash plates, Icom HF Transceiver, Uniden UHF CB, HID and LED lights, Black Duck seat covers, Tekonsha Prodigy trailer brake controller, Redarc Dual Battery Controller, ATS4X4 Side Steps/Rock Sliders.
I tried to convince the wife Pajero was the better value (I still reckon the Prado is overpriced) vehicle but she wasn't convinced. She loves her Toyotas and she will be driving the car more than I will.
However, having ummed and ahhed over time we decided on the Prado early this year (my much loved SS was being sold, but I reconsidered at the last minute ).
Now we might hold off until next year... but Prado is my preferred choice atm. The Mitsu's tall riding position just doesn't do it for me. Meanwhile the Prado looks nice and snug for a 'big' 4x4. The ride is smooth and quite. All we need to decide is whether to go petrol or diesel (I prefer the latter).

She probably knows what Pajero means in Spanish...

Ah you only get what you pay for..!! extra $$$'s means extra quality..!!
I've seen to many Pajeros with engine probs etc, spec in the older ones but maybe the new are better.! Still a good 4x4 but reliability overrules for me.!!
Strewth SS I haven't even got a clue when I get mine (GXL D4D), why would Tojo want to release a new model Prado when people are cuing up for the current model.
The reason for the 200 series update I reckon, was to get some parts commonality with the Big Lexus, plus (I think the main reason was to get a decent economical V8 high torque diesel engine into the 200 series) to show up the opposition ie. LR V8 diesel which is a pretty smart piece of work and Nissan which I reckon are going to update the Patrol sooner or later.
Can't comment about the Kluger but I think it will give the Ford Territory some curry in the future.
Just some thoughts SS, sorry to digress off the Prado topic.
07 Upgrade GXL D4D, Manual, Dune,Sov Bar, BFG's, SG11, Redark dual Batts, Extensive Aux wiring, Stebel, LED stop tails, IPF HID's (my mod), 240V Inv, ARB Comp, GME UHF,TPMS, Safari snorkel, GPS,Hilux washers, 40l Engel in 30% pas pos, homemade A/C cond protection plate, polyairs.
Any news on when the next gen Prado will be available?
We've seen updates to Landcruiser and Kluger... oddly the new Prado hasn't been discussed. Surely someone must know something?
Toyota seem to run models every 6-7 years on average, the last prado was seven years, the dealer that sold me mine hinted the other day at about late 2009 early 2010 whcih would line up with the 6-7 year cycle. He also said if you take the Kluger and then take the new 200 series cruiser and image something in between in size and that is what it will look like.
Same style across all models, Rav, Kluger, Prado and Cruiser.

Thanks Hutch.
That seems plausible. Though the new look (RAV4, LC200, Kluger) scares me somewhat.
The next gen Prado must be coming soon, seeing that Toyota has put in more fruit into the main seller GXL model.
Having said that, there isn't a new shape Lexus in the US market that will give us a clue as to what the next gen Prado will be for Australia.
I am very happy that Toyota has finally put in a number of spec changes to the vehicle, notably the new steering wheel with controls, left and right temperatures, side airbags, rear park sensors, traction control, etc. Finally they are starting to look like reasonable value for money, whereas previously, the GXL seemed a bit light on bells and whistles, considering the asking price.
