    Learnt something else today.

I always thought you couldn't leave a spare set of keys inside the car due to the keyless entry system. If you try and use the touch pads on the door handles to lock the car whilst another set is inside, it won't work (presumably to prevent locking your keys in the car).

But, if you use the button on the remote, you can actually lock another set inside the car (because by using the button, the car obviously knows you have a set on the outside). This is handy as we sometimes leave my wifes set in the car if we're going down the beach or something. If you lock another set of keys inside using this method then you also have to unlock the car with the button on the key when you get back (not with the touch pads).

    Very clever

    Cheers, Sam.

I had an Aurion with the smart entry system. I had the car locked with the key in my bag. Approached the car and opened the boot (sensed from the key in the bag), plopped the bag down and closed the boot. It then struck me what I had just done! I desperately pressed the button on the boot and pulled at the door handles but nothing. In the end I had to get the spare from home, which was an hours drive away! I guess I outsmarted the smart entry system  Must have been a common occurance since the facelift Aurion doesn't have this problem and the prado has lock/unlock buttons on the side.

Nice pick up on the locking system. I do wonder though. What would happen if someone were to break in and take the spare key to start the car...

Even better than turning the traction control off, pressing the button for three seconds turns the traction control into a standby mode that will kick in if it is really required. When climbing a hill with the TRC off when you lift a wheel the TRC still applies the brake to the free spinning wheel and you keep moving forward like all paws are on the deck.
