Mileage at delivery

When I bought my new VW Golf I went to see it at the dealers when it first arrived, it had over 40 k's on the clock. At delivery it was back to 0 k's. The mechanic told me that they could rewind the clock once from new. I was not happy about the 40 k's as it seemed excessive for only driving the car on and off the ferry and truck for delivery.
That was long winded... sorry.... but my question is... can the clock on a new Prado be rewound?? And what mileage is acceptable at delivery?
My new GXL arrives in 2 weeks. Yeh !!!!!

Mine had 11kms on it when I bought it
40 does seam a bit high

Rewound klms, doesn't sound right to me. With 40 klms on it somebody took it for a test drive.

Last batch of Hilux's delivered at work all had around 52kms on them. Mind you, all had to have tray dropped on and signage. Did not seem to excessive. Our new Prado had about 60km on when picked up as pre-delivery yard is some distance from new car yard. Can't see it as a major problem, some new cars are used for a test drive every now and then.

Ditto - I think it's actually an offence to alter a odometer.

my 2005 Prado had 2kms on the clock, salesman made a point of showing me that. 2009 Prado had 7 kms when i picked it up but had been driven to and from there workshop to have bullbar changed over from old Prado.

Hi,

I worked in the car trade for 12 years and it is legal to alter the odometers.

The dealership can alter a vehicle once only, provided the vehilce is under 100klms. They cannot do it more than once of if the odo has clicked 100 or more

Also from time to time vehicles are randomly picked for quality assesment above and beyond normal testing prior to shipment.

normal kilometres added from manufacture -

Testing - up to 20 k depending on manufacture
Loading to truck and from truck to ship
From ship to truck
Truck to head office for predelivery
On to truck to dealership
Dealership pre delivery and fuelling at station ( could be up to 3-4 klms away from dealer )
fitting of accessories as arranged

Unless you buy a vehicle on order and know it comes to the dealership as yours, it is perfectly acceptable for a new vehicle in stock to be used for test drive.

New, Demo or used every purchaser should thoroughly inspect the vheicle at pick up.

40, 60 or 99klm really makes no difference when purchasing or picking up.

I checked with the dealer this morning. The cars are delivered to Fremantle and are then driven to a holding yard in Kewdale (near Perth) where they sit waiting for a truck to send them to Bunbury (South West WA). So it is normal to have up to 40K's on the clock at delivery. The dealer said that they have a team of old ladies who drive the cars from the dock to the holding yard :roll:

I pick my new Prado up from Bunbury Toyota in about 2 weeks I'm hoping and certainly don't want any more than about 40kms on it and a 2011 compliance plate. That's not too much to ask is it. It isn't getting any accessories on it as I don't want to pay much LCT but will book it in the next week for them to be fitted.

Then why don't all dealers reset the odometer to zero prior to delivery?

Why bother to handover a new vehicle with any mileage on it then if you don't have to?

Hi Dreamon.. maybe your car will be on the same truck as mine. What colour did you go for?
Why didn't you buy from Busselton Toyota?
Can I ask if you bought the extended warranty? I am thinking about it but it seems as though it would be expecting the car to be a dud.
If it needs a 6 year warranty it should be included in the price!!! :roll:
I hope that we will both enjoy our new cars.

Why deliver the vehicle with 0 on the clock if you don't have too?
Normally the workshop pre delivers the vehicle which involves a road test, they then pass it onto the detailer who is the person responsible for filling a car. Filling a car adds klms because very few dealers have their own fuel bowsers. If you wanted 0 the a detailer would need to this prior to workshop which wastes time and money. Alteratively, the mechanic coudl do it it but who wants to pay $100 an hour for someone to fill therir car for them???


I am picking my new Prado up this Friday and I couldnt care if it has 2 or 92 k's on it.
At least with 92 on it I know if there were any minor issues they would have been picked up.

When you sell the car in 3 yrs , what do you think the price difference will be when its done 121,111 or 121,202 - Nothing.
