I have never noticed any moisture or indication of water ingress in the cabin filter. I had the filter out on the return trip to Perth after numerous water crossing on Cape York and no sign of water.

Yep we were up the cape around about the same time as Leachy, Plenty of over the bonnet water crossings and no water coming into the cab of the 120.
Oh except when i got stuck in Nolans brook ops: but that came through the doors

          Re: Water in cabin.

Silvo, I watched your video and that looked similar to my experience. Water was way up the windscreen (and front door windows) for a few seconds. I reckon it was the water coming back down the screen that did it. I also didn't have a blind on the front and was probably going a bit too fast as well, but in my case I dont see how having a blind on would have made too much difference as the water was up to the bottom of the windscreen (and some) at least briefly anyway as I drove down into and out of the hole in the middle.

I like the idea of gaffer tape, will definitely try that next time.

            Re: Water in cabin.

Was the air intake setting on the HVAC on "Fresh" or "Recirc"? Perhaps it may be worthwhile just to ensure that the intake is set to "recirc" before plunging the vehicle into deep water...

Or avoid water altogether if possible, because it washes out the grease from idler pulleys, alternators, unijoints, wheel bearings, and grit gets into diff flange seals, transfer case seals, etc.

I did the same thing. Hit the water too fast and it washed up over the bonnet, down the vents, and into the footwells. The fan was running at the time and it burnt out straight away (new fans cost $550 in case your interested!). Otherwise unscathed.

Water over the bonnet and part way up the front windscreen, boys buy a boat!! hahahahaha

Only once have i been in water that deep that was half way up the front windscreen and that was in a 64 VW beetle as a passenger i might add and then it started to float off the bloody road and we just managed to get to high ground in time before it was swept downstream. The engine never missed a beat and no water entered the cab as when new they were air and water tight. Just my two bobs worth. Bye the way the engine is in the rear for those that do not know)

When in doubt don't dive in. A lot of training doesn't include water crossings properly.

In a lot of country touring travelers may be forced to do this to clear flooding. It may pay to look for a training group or club that demonstrates the correct procedures.

When I did this crossing to get out of LCMP I got a bit of water in the footwells. I'm guessing closing the vents might help a little, whether the water is trapped rather than being released is another thing.

Gents I also have had a similar experience, depth guage showed approx. 900mm so I crawled through in low range 2nd gear, water came above the wipers, but the HMAS Prado never missed a beat. I remembered reading this thread after I crossed and thought I should check the passenger footwell. Found a few drops of water on the floor, thought I would drive the rest of the way home with the heater on only to discover that their was no air moving..... Anyway I was lucky that I stopped and removed the A/C Cabin filter (completely saturated) this allowed the air to work again and off I went with the small scar of water in a fog light.... So I figure when I put a lift under her I should be able to have a crack at the 1m mark!!!!!!
