Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

I'd been looking at the 200 and had been doing the comparison with the 150 by looking at all the stats on paper. I eventually took them both for a drive and while i was very impressed with how much power the 200 has, i thought it felt awkward and ungainly. The 150 grabbed my attention with how smooth it was, light steering with a tight turning circle. Most importantly thought, the divers seat fit my skinny butt like a glove, whereas the 200 i didn't feel secure in my seat at all.

As happy as i am with my choice to go with the 150, i still lust after the 200. I mean, just look at the black 200 done by arctic trucks and tell me it's not the shiznit.

Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

For me it was the drive of the 150. I took the kakadu and the sahara for test runs and the 150 just felt better on the road. ( and i will be chipping and adding a exhaust so any more up and go of the sahara will be negated) The final deciding factor was the size of the 200. My wife is only 5 foot 4. And she doesnt like the size of the 200. And hated parking it. Price wasn't a factor. I can afford either range topper. Its funny though, many of my friends keep asking me why i didn't get the 200. They see the 150 as the little brother as a comprimise if you will, an inferior vehicle. I don't feel as though price is guide to whether something is better than another in this instance. Simply a better fit for us.
Black 2011 Prado Kakadu TD. Darkest legal tint/uv film. Paint protection, electronic rust protection. Can't wait to pick it up!
To be installed: TJM snorkel, Tunit diesel chip, redarc dual batteries, 40l Engel, Rhino rack kayak carrier for my Hobie Pro angler!

Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

        Hi,

Pretty much the same as others. I wanted a 200, so we went out and drove a 200 and then a 150 - both GXL.
While the power was impressive, when the figures came in I couldn't justify the extra $25K for less features.
Previously owned a Patrol ( yes the engine blew up) but with a lease wanted something that will hold value over the term of the lease and that's where Toyota hold their own.
I'm not a brand fiend, i buy for what it will do for me and the Prado ticked all the boxes for us.
        Kev,

2010 Silver 5dr GXL, Auto, diesel, ARB Deluxe bar, ARB bash plates, lightforce 170's, safari snorkel, towbar, dual batteries, air bags, trans cooler, Kings/Koni's, ARB rack, Cooper S/T Maxx's, Rock Tamers, Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust and more to come.

Definately came down to the price of the 200. My mate has a GXL 200 and though I love the power it is too big compared to my 150 series which has more features anyway.

            Prado SE 3 door.

Significantly shorter and lighter and a pretty tight turning circle.

It is much easier to live with in the cities and just as capable touring. I tow a little camper trailer on long trips so don't have any problems with less internal storage.

            YMMV,

Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

For me it was fuel consumption (pretty important as I do about $60,000km a year, picked up my GXL 2 weeks ago and already done 3000km), touring range, purchase price and size.
I've always liked the mid-size 4wd rather than the bigger Cruisers and it had to be a Toyota for resale value, reliability and quality.

After 2 weeks and having come from a Hilux I just love my 150!!!!! Just can't wait for Opposite Lock to do their fit out on it (Bullbar, Winch, Side steps & rails, Rear Bar, Drawers and Cargo Barrier, Snorkel, 40mm lift) so that I can get out on the tracks.

Value for money. Wanted the v8, but couldn't justify price for what you get. Most normal people think my prado is the cruiser . They seem so much bigger than the 120s
150 GXL Diesel (white) 09/10. ARB Deluxe bullbar colour coded, Lightforce 240 (HID), Winch, Tuffdog suspension, Mickey Thomson ATZ, tint, UHF, airbags, compressor, dual batteries,... and more stuff.

                  Simple for me....$$$$

Could not see the $20-$25K difference was worth it...just my wife and I these days so space not a drama.

If I had a spare (extra) $25 sitting around doing nothing I may have bought one, otherwise 110% happy with the 150
150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. Now towing a semi offroad Lotus Freelander 18.6 Van, with all the bells and whistles.

Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

Prado 150 definitely has more range than 200 Series.

150 Series has 150 litre fuel tank on the Prado and around 10 litres per 100 kms vs 200 Series with 138 litre fuel tank and 13 litres per 100 kms (fuel consumption may vary from driver to driver)

200 Series has braked tow capacity of 3500 kg vs Prado's 2500 kg for the wagon model

150 Series is narrower, 200 Series is wider

If comparing like for like the features found on the 150 Series GXL which are not present on the 200 Series GXL:
                    1. 3 zone climate control
                    2. 150 Series has leather steering wheel, shift knob, handbrake on the GXL model - 200 Series GXL (base model) is poor in features and lost the leather wheel, shift knob and handbrake which the 100 Series had.
                    3. Hill Start Assist (HAC)
                    4. 220V AC power socket
                    5. Driver's knee airbag
                    6. Converstion mirror
                    7. Fog lamps
                    8. Roof rails
                    9. Exterior electric fold mirrors
                    10. Rear park sensors
                    11. Tonneau cover
                    12. Alarm

There's definitely more "fruit" on the 150 Series GXL for a lot less money than on the 200 Series GXL

So the big draw cards for the 200 Series is the big motor, tow capacity and more interior space. In many other areas, it's simply pricier and sparse in specification.

Re: why did you buy a prado 150 over a lc200

For me, the rear seating arrangement was my deciding factor. I wanted the option of having the extra 2 seats at the rear but also a large cargo space when the rear seats are not in use. In the LC 200, the seats fold sideways and the remaining space remains narrow and smaller (although still larger then most 4WDs) then the LC150 when the rear seats are folded flat (I have the rear cargo mat), revealing a larger and easier to handle cargo space.

Tossed up between a 76 seriesGXL, 200, & Prado. As self funded retirees it was price & suitability to lifestyle. Too many friends have bought 4wds based on one trip to the desert.

Fits suburban carparks better. But not much.

                            Hello to all.
I,m new to Pradopoint and thought I would add my two bobs worth.
Just ordered my 1st toyota with ,I hope a end of may or june delivery date.
For me the Prado GXL was a stand out when I compared it with other wagons on the market. Real good value as well, if you look at the price of the new Prado 150 $59100.00 thats on the road, LC200 $91700.00, even a 2nd hand LC100 with 104000km on the clock was $61500.00 at the local stealers the other day. So hopefuly I have made the right decision.
