  • MY10 vs. MY11 Prado

    Hi All,

Just after some thoughts on a question I just had from the folks. They are about to purchase a new Kakadu (I got my GXL in December and the ol' boy just had to outdo me :x ... ). Anyway, although he'd prefer an '11 plated model, he's been told he'll need to wait 3 months, whereas '10 plated models are in stock and obviously the wait will be significantly less. Another downfall of the 3 month wait will be another round of rego that will be due for the Patrol that they'll be trading in.

Is there ANY difference in the MY10 and MY11 Prado? Is there any reason they should wait?

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Ben

      Saskia,

I can only assume it was not for the upgraded engine. If it was, the dealer certainly was not aware, as they would have been spruiking it as such. I am guessing that as their choice was not overly common (crystal pearl Kakadu with the cruise pack), there was unsurprisingly nothing in stock with 2011 plates and the wait time, ex Japan, is 3 months.

      Cheers,

      Ben

Be aware of the difference between the build plate and compliance plate. The build plate is the date the car comes out of Toyota in Japan where as the compliance plate is to comply with Australian laws and ADR's and are put on here. You can have a 2010 "Build plate" (effectivly a 2010 model) but the comliance plate is stamped 2011. Still a 2010 model. Reason for the 3 month wait is that is how long it takes for them to build it and then deliver to your door.

Interesting that the wait is so long. Just ordered a 2011 build GXL TD and delivery to dealer is 7th March so I'm expecting to pick mine up mid March. There has been no talk of the upgraded engine though, hope I haven't been screwed.

              Ben,
We have a Silver MY10 Kakadu with optional cruise pack, ordered 20/4/2010 and picked up 30/08/2010. The wait, we were told was because of the cruise pack as this is an option that has to be fitted during the build, from memory there is 1 less camera and less 4wd selections.
Love our Kakadu, your Dad will too. We have found the cruise control is a bit touchy in the rain, tends to switch off easily, normal according to the manual.
              Cheers

I suspect you are right on the money here Leanne. They also opted for the cruise pack. It is no doubt a far different proposition to a GXL re delivery times (I waited a grand total of 6 days for mine). Anyway, their's has apparently now arrived at the dealership and is presently just getting some extra goodies attached to it. They should have it by the end of the week.

Yes, I'm absolutely sure they won't regret the purchase (he was rapt enough with my GXL). I will let them know about the cruise.

                    Cheers,

                    Ben

3 months is about right for MY11. I ordered a D4D GXL on the 23rd November and it arrived here last Monday (21/2/11). The build date on the VIN plate is 1/1/2011. I would be driving it right now if the pre-delivery guys had remembered to book it in with TJM... :?

I haven't actually checked what is stamped on the plates but the date wan on the documentation that the dealer sent me once it was received in Oz. I pick it up on Friday so I'll be sure to check it out.

I just ordered my 150 GXL D4D. Was told not to expect it before mid April. Did some dealer bashing, now I pick one up in about 2.5 weeks!!! Pays to hammer the dealers.

Can't wait. If anyone in Qld is looking for a Silver D4D GXL Auto, you could call Autocorner in Mackay (Marc Kruger) or Torque Toyota in Brisbane. They both have a cars coming.
