  • Dual Fridges

Havent been able to find many people who go for dual fridge setup. I'm thinking 2x 40L Engels, giving you the option of fridge / freezer or combination of both.
I was hoping to fit them sideways, back to back on a draw. And should leave room for the dog.

I would like to got to dual 60s/80s and maybe slide over the 60-40 split. It just comes down to needing room for a baby seat and a small dog.

    Anyone done this? Tips? Pics?

two 40 litre fridges on one drawer may be a bit too much strain on a slide. I would suggest either going two side by side if needed or speak to someone like Black Widow who makes a forward floor. The Forward floor usually replaces both seats but they may do one up for you for just one side of either the 60 or 40 split seat side.

Are you sure you need two 40s? A smaller unit for a freezer might do or one of the Waecos that have a frdge/freezer sectioned off.

Personally you can regulate a normal fridge to the point where everything on the bottom is frozen and everything on top is not. If you wanted to do this maybe consider a 2 zone addition on top of the 40 litre.

I know I have the 120 and you are the 150 but the same principle applies. I have the 47lt ARB permanently mounted in the rear above the black widow drawers. On longer trips I remove the smaller back seat and bolt in a platform that I made to take a 39ltr autofridge that we use as a freezer.

Some pictures in my rig build thread, and somewhere if you search you should find plans for the platform in a thread somewhere, I only found the thrread after I made mine, pretty easy job really.

        Cheers Andrew

yeah my olds have the first combi fridges they made and it rattled like hell till engel got around to working out how to fix it, but apart from that they wish they had 2 fridges, having 80L of fridge or freezer, and turning off half of it when not needed is what I'm thinking. From what i have read you can fit 60cans in the 40L??

How would these have been hooked up for power and would thswyup had an alternate power supply to keep fridges topped up. I am thinking of doing this myself just for travelling, no off road

I am not sure what THSWYUP. Has done but I just wired 2 plugs for my 2 fridges instead of one. I don't have solar or a generator, just charges of the alternator. If you are stopping for long periods without driving then solar or some other auxiliary power might be needed.

What sort of time/days would I get out of 2 x 40cfx if staying a couple of days somewhere then back on the road again thanks? I have dual batteries being the standard main battery and a 90a/hr aux which is a deep cycle one. I have searched on here but everyone seems to have either different setups or plug in solar etc and I cant seem to work out what I need. Have even been thinking of just stopping some where for a couple of days near a pub just in case the fridges don't last long enough

There are so many variables as to how long you would go, what temps you run your fridges at, how often do you open them, are you adding warm drinks or not, what other accessories you run, ambient temperature, parked in the shade or the sun?

Probably the easiest thing to do is give it a try at home, set things up as you might on a trip and run the fridges and monitor voltage levels over the course of a day or 2, it will give you a good indication. In my case usually I can go 24hrs without putting in much charge with 1 fridge and 1 freezer, after that I need to start the car or add power, we rarely stay put for that long so never had an issue.

Another thing I do to help is that I have outlets that I can plug into from both the auxiliary and the crank battery. On our recent trip when we had not moved a lot for a few days and the batteries were getting low I would change them to the crank battery shortly before driving, I figure I have plenty of spare amps in the Alternator and the auxiliary will recharge quicker as you are not drawing current from it while trying to recharge it.

                            Cheers Andrew
