I've been wanting a water storage solution for the 150, even more so after the weekend trip up a muddy track. I don't want to compromise storage space inside so the cavity between the towbar and rear fuel tank seemed to be the perfect spot to store some water.
I've only just started to design a storage tank. I will be making it out of stainless and it will hold about 30 litres in the current configuration. I could probably get another couple of litres but I wanted to make sure it stays within the departure line to avoid damage.
I still have to design the mounting brackets. They will either attach to the chassis rails or the towbar.
I'm after some input and suggestions.
1. What is the best way to fill an underbody tank? It will be pretty awkard to get underneath if I were to have a filling cap directly on the tank. I'm thinking a small hose with a garden hose fitting.
2. What is the best way to access the water. Should I have a simple tap behind the mudflap or pump it up with a hand pump or electric pump.
3. Breathers? I will need these for filling and draining. I was thinking a diff breather style system. One on each end.
4. How much baffling will I need inside. Is sloshing a big issue?
5. Level indication. Any suggestions on a way to gauge how much water is left in the tank other than a clear tube on the side of the tank?
