Re: View your tow bar in the reversing camera

I have found the use of the safe-tee step on my vehicle does a similar job.. It is mounted on the hitch and go's over tow bar, color of step is orange and it shows up in camera allowing me to have another reference point without hitting anything.

Re: View your tow bar in the reversing camera

I have been busy sorting the camera out on my GXL 150 and found another extra modification to do. I have a genuine Toyota towbar. Before fitting the camera bracket back in, i put 2 washers behind the bracket(top bolt only), slightly facing camera assembly down, and i can see towball just out of the on screen message. Easy .. Job done, works a treat.

Re: View your tow bar in the reversing camera

When I tried this today I needed a stack of washers to get the towball in view. It seems to me that the actual bracket the camera is mounted in has a bar that is limiting down view. I loosened the tiny screws and put a cardboard shim in and 'hey presto' there's my towball. As an aside, isn't the spare wheel cover a bugger to get back on. Nearly lost mine as it wasn't quite right.

Re: View your tow bar in the reversing camera

i guess each bracket/tension on bolts/ tow bar just slightly different and even a tenth of a degree diferent will be punctuated by the lenghth down to the ball. yes. i found i had to open back door, to get that clip thing to let go. the cover doesnt really have much to locate it in exact spot for easy re-install. hope not to get much practice taking on and off

Re: View your tow bar in the reversing camera

Sorry guys I was only having a shot. I guess it depends how high you may have to set your hitch to match your van. I have a Coromal 6.1 and I can see the whole ball and some of the hitch through my camera . Man it makes it so easy to reverse up to the van and people can't work out how I do it first time every time until I let the secret out ,then they say I'm cheating aaahhhh well I can take it .As I said and I can't resist it You'se all shudda bought SHORTIES

                    1. Remove the spare wheel cover
                    2. Remove the camera bracket. To do this involves undoing two bolts - One above the camera and one below the camera (they are very obvious). Then reach behind the camera and unplug the camera.
                    3. Remove the shroud. Now you should have the camera and supporting bracket in your hand. Turn it over and you will see the shroud is held in by two small phillips head screws. Remove these screws and the shroud will come away.
                    4. Put everything (except the shroud) back the way you found it.
                    5. Reverse up to your trailer

Because the camera is not centred on the vehicle it is surprisingly hard to reverse up to your trailer accurately, but nevertheless, have fun trying!

Just wonder why this 'shroud'? Modifies air flow to keep camera lens clean??? Thanks for this suggestion.
I took a small (4mm dia) round file and removed a small portion of the bottom lip of the shroud on a line lens-to-towball, works well.

Our new work 150 s have Kaymar rear bars with dual wheel carriers. They relocated the camera mount on the RHS wheel carrier so it is almost in the middle and quite low. Great view of the tow bar BUT very hard to see the camera view in mixed light like half shadow half sun. Never noticed that effect on my own

I did this this morning, checked everything multiple times as I put it back together and it was great, didn't need any spacers and could see the towball no worries. Then I put the cover back on and the towball disappeared again, which was weird, as I could see it fine above the check surroundings warning with no cover on...

Edit: just thinking about it again, the shroud hid the area that is now hidden by the spare wheel cover, so instead of a black bar at the bottom of the picture, there's now a silver bar.

Mine is the same now, and with this rain around I have noticed it is a bit more susceptible to road grime and water on the lens down there. Just means I need to wash it more often now I guess.
