Just some photos and tips on installing a Kaymar WOD Spacer K7120 part

Used a nylon washer between the spacer and door so as to protect the paint



I decided to unclip the plug as there would have been too much tension on the cable when re-connecting the camera. Trick was to use a small flathead screw driver to leverage the clip and it slides off the bracket



Spacer added 2 inches to the tyre protrusion.



Ready now to install the LED Telescopic Light.

Nice one mate. Just did the same to my 150 a couple of weeks ago (including releasing the cable). Keep any eye on those nylon washers as there is a lot of force on them.
Be keen to see you add the telescopic light.

Rather than nylon washers I used a strip of insulation tape between the bracket and its contact area on the rear door. When I removed the bracket before selling the car after 6 years and many corrugated roads I peeled off the tape there had been no damage to the paintwork.

Thanks guys for the heads up on the washers.
I was thinking also of using fibre washers but felt that nylon was less toxic against the paint work.



As to the light install, I have the light and will do a write up on it in relation to electrics. Interesting comment on the insulation tape, as i would have thought from past experience it gets "gu-ee" - I used electrical tape on split electrical conduit for my fridge wiring and after 5 years it was a bitch to take off and sticky.

When you say to keep an eye on the nylon washers, is it because they may get compressed and eventually give "wriggle room" to the whole assembly ?

Can you emphatically state with documented evidence and signed by a JP that your solution does work, and if used by PP members they will be compensated for any said failure LOL. 5hite I cut myself laughing :-) - thanks for the tip.

In a word, no.
Thinking about it I used 4 strips of tape, 2 on each side of the bracket to cover the full width of each side of the bracket.
The tape would have been Scotch® Super 33+™ Vinyl 19mm wide.

I have one of these Kaymar spaces on my 2018 Prado 150 too. I used cloth tape stuck to the back of the Kaymar bracket, rather than washers, to try and protect the paint a little. I didn't use washers because Kaymar didn't provide any with the kit, the original Toyota wheel bracket doesn't use anything like that (just metal on paint), and I was worried that the washers could fail (if I chose the wrong spec, type or size). But I don't really know what I am going -- but that was my rationale :-).

I'd be interested in reading about your light installation. I might do that myself. I'm not sure if such a light would really be that useful, for me. I find a headlamp is all I need for most things, and it has the advantage or being able to be used near or far from the car. It could be useful when reversing, though.

Yes, compressed and/or cracked.

I did have one of these Kaymar brackets to space the spare out, did a great job. The only down side was, after a few long drives on corrugations in WA with a garbage bag hanging off the spare, a few (most) of the spot welds inside the rear door broke. This allowed the whole spare assembly to move around and required fixing.

I am not in any way blaming the bracket, just passing on my experience.

That's a bummer to hear, but thanks for letting us know.

Spacing out the wheel increases the moment of force, as does the extra weight from the bin (and maybe a heavier tyre too). Too much for the spot welds it seems.

What model Prado do you own?

I guess I'll take my chances and keep using the spacer, as I don't have a good alternative.

Yes I still have the 2010 Prado and plan to keep for a few more years yet. Keep forgetting there is no signature anymore on the posts.
