Wow they've dropped in price. I believe the chip itself was $1500 with fitting and dyno covering the other $200. Maybe I got ripped off, oh well. Very happy with it so far.

Just thinking of getting a SB chip. Has anyone had experience with chip being in vehicle when going for service or under warranty and what are your experiences with fuel consumption with an auto on long trips with out towing. I cant see my self taking it out for every service I go for just to keep dealer happy.

Had a steinbauer chip installed approx 1000km ago on 120 series 08 diesel. It is a notable difference to drive, smoother through auto gears and motor seems to work less and has quite a bit more zip.

Have not yet towed camper trailer, approx 1800kg fully loaded which is reason for installing the chip, but hope to get trailer out for a trip soon.

I paid the $1415 plus install/dyno. The dyno showed approx 18pc more power but difficult to get accurate readings with 5spd auto transmission as it tends to want to down shift when put under some pressure on the dyno which makes the readings not so smooth. Apart from dyno resuts, which were good i am happy and pleased i made the decision as it is notably different. Also had a kill switch installed and you can turn it off at flick of switch to notice the difference immediately.

Havent done many kms yet and looking forward to towing the camper.

Below is the LED function of operation of the Steinbauer module as fitted to my 2007 D4D prado and sent to me by Steinbauer.

                Two lights: Red & Yellow.
Red light flashes when an injection signal is detected. (same like previous at idle ~ 1 flash/sec.)
Yellow light comes on when a power increase is detected or the box is disabled (grey cable to ground).

Power on, engine not running. (ignition on)
Red light will be on solid. (not flashing).
Yellow light should be flashing. This is from the reference signal.
With the accelerator in the idle position it should be a slow flash.
As the accelerator is depressed the flash will speed up.
Yellow light off: Reference signal not connected or short to ground.
Yellow light on: Reference signal short to plus.

                Engine running, no power increase.
Red light will flash depending on the revs. (at idle ~ 1 flash/sec.). Yellow light will be off.

                Engine running with power increase.
Red light will flash depending on the revs. (at idle ~ 1 flash/sec.).
Yellow light is on. On deceleration the yellow light will go out.

Engine running with grey wire connected, Box turned off.
Red light will flash depending on the revs. (at idle ~ 1 flash/sec.).
                Yellow light will be on.

The above LED status was sent to me from Steinbauer as the correct operation of the module.
ENJOY THIS GREAT AND FASCINATING COUNTRY OF AUSTRALIA.

I just had a Steinbeaur chip installed last week on a brand new 2013 150 ZR. Made the expected difference, smoother gears , holds one gear higher..., more power of the line , no turbo lag. Put my trailer on yesterday with about 500kg of quadbikes and headed up the Toowoomba range with a mate with am XR6 turbo. When we stopped in Toowoomba he commented how well my truck went and he could not keep up without having to floor it all the way up the range.

As for our mate "ChipIt" , I have had two bad experiences with Chipit so I speak form experience, A Nissan Navara and an LC200. I am still waiting for replacement modules for both vehicles , two years later !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . All I get is waffle , and the " are you sure you were dealing with me" from Robert. He still says he never received the returned products.

You only have to look at how he is spruking within other brands posts to see how keen he is to sell. Most good brands sell themselves , in my humble opinion.

I have had DP Chip , Superchip(In a 2013 Range Rover Sport) , CHIP IT and Steinbeaur , across a number of vehicles and the only one I would not touch again if my life depended on it is one starting with a C !!!!!!!!!!

Only my opinion , but one based on fact. How many times do you see comments where people have had to send it back or get it modified with any of the other brands ??

Not looking for a war , however having paid for two and never received any of the so called " money back warranty" I am entitled to give my opinion.
Steinbeaur all the way , no regrets, and my Toyota dealer loves the increased power too !!!!!!!

Had been looking into either a Steinbeaur or DP Chip, if and when I get to go down the path of an exhaust/chip upgrade. I like what I hear about the Steinbeaur and the DP Chip can be done at my local 4x4 store. Had toyed with idea of possibly a Chip It, but i need something fairly idiot-proof, and unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case at present.

                    • I have Steinbauer. After 20,000 km of service it has been faultless and I would highly recommend it to any Prado owner. You need to stop and think about what you are really trying to achieve in modifying a Prado driveline. It's not all about crash and bash, point and shoot (ie 4wd action video carry on). A good chip with the rear muffler changed out for a straight thru unit will transform a Prado into a car with less off the line lag, better response changing lanes at speed and smoother control off road. Combine this set up with a throttle control unit like a Sprint or Wind booster (same thing really) and you will be very happy. I have tested this set up in my 150 GXL Turbo diesel manual and it's great, the Steinbuaer really responds well..

I'm so happy in testing this set up last year, I have ordered a throttle Windbooster to match up to my Steinbauer; now that will be the perfect set up for me.

Thanks for your post.....very interesting......Chip it is certainly a problematic product. The Steinbeaur is certainly the way to go. Eventually I will get one of these with a 3" exhaust.

                            • I have one question, if the gains in economy and power are easily done then why hasn't Toyota done it. Surely a new Prado with 160 kilowatts and 500 torques would be a hands down game changer. I imagine the answer is emissions and reliability.

By the way mate of mine went and got a Roo Systems chip and Scotts Rods exhaust fitted to his 120. What a shambles. He has been back to Banyo more times than he admits. Sure goes like a cut snake but it drinks fuel like Crownies at a Melbourne Cup day at Flemington and belches black smoke just to make sure that the Cops notice..
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.
I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.

                              • I had a cheaper brand in my Truck, It was great until i fried my Diesel pump!!! This chip claimed to have engine cut out safety features and claimed to do everything that the other chips do, but it did nothing other than cause me to break down!
I have many mates who run steinbauer modules in their trucks that which are pulling up to 60tonnes and they havent had any problems.
Im sure that there are other good brands out there but after my experience i will never go cheap again.
