  • Diff drop and extended sway bar links

When I originally put the OME lift on my 150, items such as the front diff drop kit and extended sway bar links were not, as far as I knew at the time, available. To be honest I've never found any problems with the ride, but I'm interested to know whether these items (now that they are available) are worthwhile additions? Are they now considered to be required, or just nice-to-have, or simply another way to separate me from my money??

If your lift is over 2" then they are required, particularly the front diff drop. Otherwise, they are nice to have.

With the setup of the front end on the 150, the Extended links are of no real benefit.
The rear links are still in development for this model & will help to reposition the swaybar back to a better working position after a lift.

      Regards, Jason.

I am trying to find any information on sway-bar spacers/extensions for the models equipped with KDSS, does anyone know of a product or info?

So far I have done a bit of research on FJ and 4runner forums in the states but to no avail.

All the extended sway bar links I can find use heim (rose) joints which are questionable from a legal viewpoint and wear quickly in muddy conditions unless they have a boot - which none of them do! Does anybody know of a supplier that uses standard factory style joints on a longer link?

A diff drop kit will actually reduce clearance under the front, so unless you are lifted over 2" and CV binding is an issue then they will be a step backwards.

As for rear swaybar links, If the sway bar is not the limiting factor in suspension travel then a slightly longer link might neaten it up and give slightly improved wear on the rubbers. On the flip side, when I fitted longer shocks to my 120 and as a result extended the sway bar links to improve articulation the longer links made handling on road a bit worse. Nothing major, just a little bit more body roll. I was happpy for the slight trade off in on road handling for the improved wheel travel off road. So once again if wheel travel is not limited; extended links might reduce handling without any improvement elsewhere.

              Cheers Andrew

I was thinking the same thing about the diff drop!

I would like to try extended rear sway bar links, but I don't like exposed heim joints in a wet and muddy environment. Maybe I'll cut and lengthen an original Toyota set....

I extended mine and made them adjustable, check out from post 292 in my rig build.

That looks like the way to go.... Did you put a left hand thread on one side so you can adjust without loosening the ends?

No, I don't have any left hand taps or dies.

I set them 30mm longer than standard, that gives me full flex with my longer shocks, neatness up all the angles even at full flex and I haven't adjusted since. Only takes a minute or 2 to adjust them if I wanted.

                      Cheers Andrew
