  • Koni/Lovells 2" lift for Prado 150

    Hi all,
I have been quoted [and accepted] for the following:

    Shocks:
    Koni HT 88-1712 Front
    Koni Raid 90-5404LR Rear

    Springs:
    TFR-118HD Front Coils
    TRR-119 Rear Coils

for a quality 2" lift for the 150.

Looking through the 120 suspension database and reading this post I'm now worried I'm not going to get the 2" lift I wanted and the Lovells may sag over time. Am I better off buying Kings (or other) and asking them to install those instead?
Happy with the Konis but for the money I want the 2" and quality springs to match!

Is anyone using the springs above, and did you get a 2" lift? Just as importantly has it stayed 2" over time??

    cheers,

I would go with Dobinson coils. I have used lovell springs in the past & had sagging problems.

I supplied and or fitted a few 150's this week, 2 of them are PP'ers, they heights came up excellent with Dobinsons.
If they read this, perhaps they can say what they think about it.
I thought they looked great & drove very well.
2 year unlimited Klm's warranty. I think they are very happy.

You might get 2" on the front, definately won't on the back. I've got TFR119's. Started out at 820mm on the day on installed. Settled to 807mm within a week and have been at this height for around 2 years. My front springs TFR-118's have held up from from the day they were installed (770mm). If you get the springs you've quoted on the front, you might find the side steps are higher at the front door compared to the back. The front is meant to be lower than the rear.

You want 790mm or so on the front 820-830 on rear (depending on fuel & load) for a 50mm lift.
But height isn't everything, it's how you use it, like another saying I've heard.
How much coin for the Koni?

                  thanks everyone.
Definitely going to give the Lovells a miss.

                  So is the following compatible?

Front: Koni 88 Heavy Tracks (88-1712) and Dobinsons C59-352 (bullbar, dual batteries soon, winch maybe one day)
                  Rear: Koni 90 Raids (90-5404L & 90-5404R) and Dobinsons C59-327

Dogsbreakfast, Kings were on the list as well but Dobinsons seem to be getting the nod.

                  cheers,

If you are going to add accessories to the front, then you are better going for Bilstein, TJM, and others where the spring seat is adjustable. So you just move the seat up as you add extra weight to the front.

I installed Dobinsons springs and shocks on Tuesday. I have dual batteries and a Sovereign alloy bar. This is in a manual 150 GX so no rear seats.

                      Front: C59-350
                      Rear: C59-327

I have gained 50mm in the front and 65mm in the rear so far over measurements for the 82,000klm originals.. It is going in for a wheel alignment Saturday and I will take the official measurements after that.

Initial impressions are great! The front no longer dives under braking or lifts up between gear changes. The ride is smooth on normal roads and larger bumps are taken care of with ease. They are firmer than standard but not rougher at all. I am very happy with these, especially at the price ;-)

I intend to make drawers for the back and leave them in so the rear will come down a little and it will be perfect.

                      Cheers Brad.

What sort of Bullbar? Possibly 350's same spring rate and only 5 mm shorter.
It depends what loads your planning to have in the back, but yes, 327 is what I often use in 120 and 150's.
If your running it empty most of the time & don't load it up too much sometimes 325's are the go.

                          Brad,

As you know, they might settle a little & you can have some load in the back & still maintain some lift.

                          Cheers

                            ARB Steel winch bar.
Definitely run empty most of the time when on my own.
When we go away as a family though it soon loads up.
Doing the Savannah Way and the Simpson during Winter next year. Will definitely be under load then.
                            cheers, Mark

####, I reckon the 350's are perfect with my current accessories. For those wanting to extract every last mm the longer 352's would be fine. I'm happy with it and once it settles and I get the rear storage in it will sit perfect.

                              Cheers Brad.
