  • IronMan Foam cell Pro shock absorbers

A mate of mine works at an IronMan store and has been raving about their new Foamcell pro shock absorbers. He replaced a set of 1 yr old OME in his Hilux and says the difference is beyond comparison.

Has anyone fitted these and can comment on their ride/handling and fade resistance? I like the fact that they hold 1 litre of Fuchs fluid in each shock/strut and that they have an adjustable external thread for coil height.

    cheers
    Geoff

        Guys,

I went into the Ironman head office in Brendale today, just to get another twist in the shocks. As expected, the guys who work there rave about them, however there was guy who just had them fitted to his Patrol a few weeks ago. He replaced TJM suspension and loves these new Ironman shocks.

I was quoted $970 complete struts fitted and they know how to work with the KDSS.

        cheers
        Geoff

I have just fitted up a set in mine. Awesome to the point that we now sell and fit them. Had a few issues with front coil/strut clearance due to strut is being so big. But that was minor. They work pretty damn good.

Was the clearance issue on the 150 in particular if so can you provide some details?

I looked at these on line... beefy.
I am also after a new set of shocks, I can't decide which one to get. So many options/brands available on the market.

I am in the same boat.

Spoke to every suspension place in town and surprisingly they all sell the best suspension for the Prado..

Still have no idea what to get. Read the suspension forums and still none the wiser...

The spring on one end tapers.. the standard strut slides through that tapered end quite easily. The Ironman Foamcell Pro has a 65-72mm outer body which is a lot thicker than standard so only just clears through this taper. This isnt an issue once fitted as there is no movement at that point of the spring. The powdercoating of the spring makes what is already zero clearance an issue so in some cases you need to linish the very small location where it hits. Its not much of an issue and I believe they will address this with future spring batches. The fronts of the foamcell pro are fully adjustable so you can adjust the ride heights to suit changes to your car ie. bullbar and winch etc. Have had this setup on for 4 weeks now.. very impressive performance on and off road. Most notable improvement was towing a 2.5t van. Car levels out perfectly, and driving steady at 100km/hr the car is very sturdy and precise. With previous setup (OEM) and previous car (150 Kakadu) the car tended to wallow a lot more. I will put a set of the Ridepro Rox in in a few weeks time to test them also. Dont want to be seen to be biased too much to a single brand. Have already run tough dogs on my 100 series up in the Pilbara on the rough access roads. THey were impressive but I owuld have to say the Foamcell Pro just have the edge on them but not by much.

Hey G Dog... are you saying that the spring is a minor issue, would other springs fit the new foam cell pro?

yes the spring is a minor issue. We just polished a mm or 2 of the paint off the inside of the spring.
You can use other springs as long as they are increased height. OEM and other standard height springs will not fit.

we now sell the Ironman stuff here thats how impressed i am.. However for fear of spruiking my business I wont say who we are
I am about to test the Ridepro Rox so would be keen to hear from others who may have already tested or heard about them.

What's the minimum spring length? Will 360mm work? Also will a spring with 18mm wire fit without polishing the spring?

Its not so much the spring height in its insitu state, as a standard OEM spring and the Ironman lift kit spring are pretty much the same height out of the box.
The Foamcell Pro needs to only be fitted with a spring of at least 40-45mm lift from OEM
