I've got Dobinson MRR shocks and springs suited for bar/winch on the front and 300kgs on the back. When we're loaded up with 2 adults/3 kids/fridge/food in the car and a Tvan on the back it's great - soaks up the bumps really well.
But... when there isn't as much load in it (no Tvan on the back, nothing in the back) it's rather "jolty" - it doesn't respond well to the short/sharp bumps. That makes it a bit unpleasant to drive around the city each day or on day trips without the Tvan.
Does the adjustable compression/rebound on the BP51's "fix" that? Or is that a spring problem? I'm interested in the BP51's if they would allow the car to handle both situations well.

Hey all,
I've recently had a squiz at the BP-51 valving, quite interesting!
Could anyone who's done a lot of corrugations on BP-51's post up what click the front and rear adjusters were set to for the most comfortable drive, what speeds you were doing, your vehicle weight, tire pressures and coil rates front and rear if you know them.
Many thanks!

Do you have the C59-327 or C59-329 in the rear?
I am thinking of C59-350 + C59-327 with Dobinson Monoshocks (with the reservoirs) - to be fitted directly by Dobinsons.
I like the handling to be fairly tight but without getting too rough a ride around the city. I will only be carrying moderate loads and perhaps a medium camper trailer into the future.
40mm lift is plenty for me.

I run the C59-327's in the rear and C59-352's in the front.
It's fairly stiff and may be a little uncomfortable if you like a plush ride but It handles well, especially with a load.
If you don't have a bull bar or any heavy gear in the front I'd stick with the 350's and 327's in the rear.
The rear will be firm compared to the front though if you don't carry any gear but it will be great to tow with.

Bar and winch on the front.
Firm but not harsh is how i would describe the ride.
Car handles great empty or loaded

Many thanks for the advice. This seems to line up with Dobinsons recommendations (350/327 in my case due to only medium loads and no bull bar). I am not sure if the monoshocks would provide a firmer set-up than the twin-tube option (but at least the monoshock seems more adjustable e.g. during fitting). I think I can accept a slightly firmer ride to remove the 'unsettled' feeling around town and less dipping under braking (cornering actually seems OK)

Thanks mate,
Yeah I did some research the fronts are hight adjustable but from the top so they have to be pulled out to be adjusted
Also worked out the original rear shocks BP5160002 have been superseded by the BP5160025, new stone guard design and shorter open length down to 608mm open from 613.
From all the info I can gather they are high build quality with great ride
What are your over all thoughts on and off road
Any photos ?

They are adjustable for ride height via a threaded nut on the top of the spring. You shouldn't have to remove them to do it. My opinion is to use the dampening to find your own comfort level. I did have the compression set at about half way, with the rebound set slightly higher. Great for around town comfort.
I did wind both settings to full when in the whoops on the French Line to firm everything. I fount that the camper and rear travelled heaps better. Cleared every dune first go with no harshness.
Had to back off the settings when back on hard dirt as my fillings in my teeth were getting loose!
If you are going to regularly head to remote and harsh country they are brilliant. Worth every cent when you find a washout or some other hazard coming up quick! Plus there is lots of places all over the country that are ARB dealers.
Hope that helps. Back to researching and not posting for me.
