    Yep it was Zordo. Pretty happy with the rear articulation, it's a fair bit better then my previous challenger with OME suspension..

      Hey Lski,

      Zordo uses the 24-217897 in the rear which is 610mm open, and he usually uses around 10mm or so of spacers, so your open length is definitely out past 620mm.

      I'd also guess you have 327 Dobinsons coils in the rear.

      Yep the rear flex is pretty nice in the Prado once you get to around 620mm open length. You've got very nice lift and droop figures, well done!

      This also tells me that the 2016 model 150 definitely has the same geometry as 120/150/FJ.

        Just to correct I have 830 ride height (17s). When you measure the open length, where are you measuring from and to?

          Hey wheelan,

          To measure the rear shock open length, measure from the centre of the bottom ring eye to underneath the bottom washer which sits on the shaft flange.

              rain stopped so I measured the open length of the rear shocks 585 give or take a mm. As DMS make these shocks inhouse I will ask if they can extend this to 620.

                Hey wheelan,

                Ok, so DMS have given you a short shock in a lifted geometry...they should have checked the droop before the vehicle left the workshop.

                Just a few things to be aware of extending to 620mm open length;

                1. The factory brake lines tend to be at full stretch in the 610-615mm range...they may be longer on the 2016 model, but you should check, you may need longer brake lines.

                2. The limit of the arc of the swaybar is 615mm, so if you run a shock longer than 615mm you should extend the swaybar links to ensure you top out on the shocks instead of the swaybar. In general you can extend the swaybar links by around 30mm....see Roadsafe adjustable links for an example.

                3. Double check with DMS the free height of your coils, they are likely ok considering your ride height of 830mm, but double check anyway, you don't want coil dropouts.

                4. Check what the closed length will be with the longer open length. It will increase, as to get to 620mm they will likely use the same shock body but with a longer shaft, so closed length will increase as well by 620-585 = 35mm. Axle-bumpstop bind on the chassis bumpstops is 405mm, and the bumpstop is around 50mm thick. You should account for at least 80% compression of the bumpstop, so your target lengths should be something like 365-620mm. There are not many shocks with these dimensions...and it's unlikely DMS can match them. This means you may need to lower your bumpstops if you use their shocks.

                Good luck with getting it sorted out!

                  Sorry for hijacking the thread..
                  About to pick up my 2016 gxl this week and want to confirm my suspension selection..
                  Prado will have bullbar, winch and 2nd battery. No weight in the rear.
                  I have selected

                  Front coils Dobinsons c59-352
                  Rear coils Dobinsons c59-325
                  Front shocks Bilstein 24-173032-1
                  Rear shocks Bilstein 24-217897

                  Is there anything else I should do/need while I'm going?
                  Thoughts?

                  Cheers!!

                    Hey,

                    Check out this thread for the kind of lift the coils you've chosen will give;

                    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...il-free-length

                    You may want to consider a 327 in the rear in the future if you start building in your cargo area.

                    Discussion of the Bilsteins can be found here;

                    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...hs-and-Valving

                    The front 24-173032-1 should be the 570mm open length version. You might want to consider a diff drop in the front depending on how much lift you achieve on the front with the 352.

                    The 2016 model Prado may have decreased the front IFS coil rate, you need to double check this. Measure your OEM coils, wire diameter, inside diameter, total wraps etc. The reason you need to do this is because the 352 was designed for the pre face lift 150, which runs higher rate coils. The 24-173032 is a high rebound strut designed specifically for the high rate 150 coils, so it will match the 325 coils well. However, if the 2016 model is now running lower rebound/lower coil rate setup on the IFS, then you must keep in mind you are putting an after market high rebound/high coil rate setup into it which may not be close to the factory specs.

                    The 24-173032/325 combination may feel quite stiff on road.

                    It is possible Toyota have lowered the rebound/coil rate on the latest model Prado to address the guard cracking issue, something which has been prevalent in the US with FJ's (which run a similar coil to the 150).

                    The 24-217897 is a good choice for the rear, if you use spacers to increase the open length beyond 610mm, then you need to check your brake lines aren't getting stretched, and you may want longer swaybar links.

                    I'm measuring some coils from a new 2.8 GXL tomorrow, so hopefully I can have a more concise answer about the front coils for you then!

                      33som, I have the 2016 and have the 352 in the front and the 327 in the rear and I'm really happy with it - good drivability, good ride height and good offroad. I have also removed the 3rd row seating so it's lighter in the rear. I personally feel that the 325 might be a little to light for the rear and result in less then desired ride height.. Re the 352 in the front, I have bar and large 2nd batt, the shock is on the 2nd setting and gives me around 807-810mm ride height in the front.

                        Hey all,

                        I checked on some 2016 2.8 diesel front coils today, they are the same as the old coils, so the high rebound/high coil rate on the 150 IFS has been preserved, at least for the diesel.

                          I think I'l go ahead with the selected bits but will change the rear coils to the 327s.
                          Any suggestions on where to buy?

                              Zordo done a lift in my old Patrol so I'l go with him again.

                                Hey Mark, thanks for the detailed response. So I contacted DMS today via email, and their response was "Hello Paul
                                The only way to get extra droop is to buy the adjustable shock which has a canister" and Hello Paul
                                This kit is designed for 2" lift which is legal.

                                If you are going higher than this , you will need to go to an
                                adjustable damper, which allows the longer stroke.
                                We have used this combination in many Prado 150's which have
                                travelled all throughout Australia including Central Australia
                                without any issues.

                                My earlier response to them was "The rear springs I have put in were for a 2 inch lift with less than 100kg on board, my message clearly detailed that that the lift is 60mm,just over 2 inches. My problem is I only have 55 mm of downward travel in the rear, and the shocks seem to be topping out over speed bumps. If you don't think this is a problem let me know.

                                SO, I still think there is something wrong, 55mm just does not seem enough, which got me thinking on the way home, could the rear shock have been installed incorrectly?? Checked my old shocks and they have a washer, rubber spacer sitting on top, does this go under the shock tower mount or on top? If it goes under and the new shocks didnt come with this spacer this would explain the limited travel.
