  • New Prado owner. Suspension and tires?

    Hey guys,
I understand there are hundreds of topics in regards to suspension upgrades, although I just don’t get the exact answer I am chasing. I don’t know a great deal about suspension and I am just wondering if there are any suggestions into what suspension kit would be suited. ARB have qouted me 2” OME nitro system with 200 kg constant load on the back and with medium on the front.
Also what tyres would you suggest and what size? Wondering weather I go bigger or not.

    thanks

firstly, welcome to PP. You have come to the right place for advice on your new Prado.
Perhaps you can let us know which model you have, any accessories you have fitted (bull bar, etc.), and the type of driving you are most likely to do.

    Cheers,

      I have a 2018 GXL. I run BFGKO2s 265/70/17s.

A lot more info is required when trying to give suggestions on what suspension to go for. One of the considerations is how much do you have to spend.

I have a summit bar, winch with rope, dual battery, towbar, rhino platform.

I have bilsteins, EFS 100kg constant load springs with airbag man air bags in the rear and front EFS springs to suit 50-100 kgs of accessories. The springs are supposed to give 40mm lift, I only got 20.....I cannot recommend EFS.aalso after contacting EFS they were not interested and palmed me straight back to the place where I got them.

Had a similar experience two89, get onto them about it, these sorts of things can happen if they spring you too light for the weight that you're carrying (or if they've got no idea what they're doing with the coil/ shock combination)- It's not really EFS's problem as they're not the ones that have installed the package, a question for the installers to be sure.

I am getting EFS TPR104EHDE's 100-130 kgs of accessories, and 10mm taller than the TPR 104 HDE's.

I paid the money and got the Lovells GVM upgrade for my 2018 Prado 150 before it got registered by Toyota. It was installed by TJM here in Adelaide.
The Lovells upgrade comes with a federal compliance plate for the new GVM of 3,500Kg.

I drove it up the Googs Track north of Ceduna a couple of weeks ago. 200Kms of track with 300 sand dunes plus some mild corrugations inbetween. Then a couple of hunderd Ks of mildly corrugated faster track from there along the trans continental railway back to Glendambo. It was a smooth ride over all corrugations, but a fellow driver in a Pajero just about had his teeth rattle out. We swapped vehicles, but after 15mins I wanted my Prado back.

The only trouble I had was the front sway bar donging into the front right strut on the few heavily moguled sections of sand dunes.
There was paper thin separation between the sway bar and the spring base on the lifted struts.
However there is a fix available in the form of a spacer for the sway bar mountings. Superior Engineering and Iron Man have spacers for Prado 150s.
Lovells supplied the Superior Engineering spacer and TJM installed in - all gratis, for which I am grateful.

I'd be wary about giving EFS crap about this. Sounds like the installer is at fault here. You bullbar, winch and dual battery are almost definitely pushing over the 50-100kg the installer has given you at the front. 100kg in the rear also might be a bit light on depending what you carry/tow.
I had EFS in my 80 series and it was fantastic. Putting Dobinson in this week on my 150 though.
